I almost hit 3 roadies on precisely the same way this accident happened. I was waiting for a car to pass and was going to go over just after him and luckily for me i caught a glimpse of them through the car they were behind. Also almost knocked down a couple in the south, going down klipriver under the bridge there is a slip that takes you to liefde and vrede i was going to take the slip but they were pumping it over the slip so i had to continue straight make a u-turn at the robot come back and take the slip on the other side. If i had not seen the car infront of me also want to but swerve back and miss the slip and he just continued straight i would have mowed them down. At 100km/h its very very easy to make a mistake. Unfortunately accidents do happen. Sometimes its someones fault sometimes it is not.

Whether its someones fault or not lets not have it be for nothing. R.I.P Burry.

The taxi driver claims he didn't see him, yet they were both travelling in the same direction. That's the reason why you always check your mirror and your blind spot before turning. It's an accident that could've been avoided had the driver simply turned his head slightly before turning.

This just again goes to show that regardless of who is in the wrong the cyclist will always come of second best. You should go on the road with the assumption that all drivers are idiots.

This still feels so unreal. Incredibly sad.

Yip. Like I said, most of these cyclists have no clue. They want to go straight at an intersection, but hug the edge of the road and follow the turning lane and then go straight. Morons.

Yes, when I see the way cyclists ride in traffic, they clearly have no clue for the most part.

Including slip streaming cars and trucks which you previously admitted getting a kick of doing wink.png

I got taken out if few years ago while ridding my motorcycle where a person (white male) made a u-turn in the road while I approaching from the opposite side. My motor bike had full lights on and all this guy could say "Sorry, I did not see you"

luckily for me I just pulled away when this happen and sustained no serious injuries, but at the end of the day it can happen to anybody!

I don't think we can really debate if the Taxi did see Burry, misjudge the speed Burry was traveling or any other factor that caused the this tragic event as none of us were there! The fact that the Police already charged the Taxi driver for culpable homicide show us that there is more than enough evidence to proceed with this case and to have a conviction! The sad thing is, it will not bring Burry back and will not ease the pain Burry wife, family and friends experiences through this difficult time!

Ah, so certain rules apply, if its a eighteen wheeler its OK.

Any more "rules" on when and where to apply TNT methods.

Ya, I've broken the law in the past, but I behave now. Simple really, trying to be part of the solution and not part of the problem.

I think as part of all these campaigns and stuff we as cyclist should say IT STARTS WITH ME and pledge to

1 = make ourselves as visible as possible (lights etc)

2= ride in a manner that allows traffic to pass without endangering themselves or others. That does not mean riding single file, circumstances dictate depending on traffic and road conditions, and when traffic approach we will move to the left to assist safe passing

3 = acknowledge that drivers are like us, are also human and can make mistakes therefore rather than self righteously claim we also own the road, take accountability to make sure motorists see us and be pre empt the common mistakes drivers make

If we get the above right we can expect motorists to reciprocate, otherwise continue kicking the cans

Before anyone says anything about the shorts and short sleeve. I went to the gym down the road. 1.2km from home. Yes i know if i wore full kit the leeding would be less but the broken pelvis would still have been broken.

I was going straight down the road and this poeph@l was in the yellow lane so i didnt give him any notice and as i approach him he makes a u-turn.

I am still recovering after a year.
