BOTTLE STERILISATION

By Jazz Kuschke

Riding bottles and hydration packs go manky pretty flipping quickly. Milton – that stuff used for baby-bottle sterilisation – is your best friend. I prefer to use the tablets (two litres of water to a tablet). Vigorously swirl the mixture around in the bottle or pack and then let it stand for about 30 minutes. Boom… Be sure to thoroughly rinse the bottle or pack afterwards, else on the next ride your drinks are bound to taste as though they were mixed with pool water (that’s a lot better than mould, anyway). Those fancy baby-bottle brushes work pretty well too. It is as they say: ‘What’s good enough for baby…’

Milton is horrible.

Microwave sterilisation is more effective.

Put bottles in a cook in bag with a few ml of water and microwave for two or three minutes.

Good thread...looks out for our fellow hubbers.

What he said .

or if you have ever had kids , when they was very little you needed to do the same to thier bottles and some of you may still have your microwave steri thing . use that also works a treat .

I just rinse my bottles with tap water and leave them open to dry completely. I never have any gunk forming and see no need to sterilize them. I do the same for the Camelbak. storing it completely dry is the key.

hmm

maybe a simpler solution,

Get some baby / milton's. mixed with Hot water.

Careful of the microwave, bottle might not survive.

I dont like a camelbak. Last week I found the Camelbak that I wore at the Baviaans two years ago.Just threw it into a cupboard and forgot about it after the Baviaans. Still half full of water. Now that water should be potent by now.

hmmm. I never wash my camelbak bladder with anything, I'll hang it up to dry after a ride if I remember otherwise I just empty the remaining water the night before a ride, rinse it out and rub it around a bit to get the slime off the inside, refill and I'm good.

Havent been sick yet, touch wood.
