Your Enduro ride

Can I ask you enduro boffs a question. Looking at swopping out a marathon bike for a Giant Trance 4, 2012 model I think. The aim is to upgrade the Trance over time as the components are petty sucky. The bike feels dang heavy. Will upgrading the components to let's say 2x10 XT, decent fox enduro shock etc help the weight? Any thoughts on the frame in general?

Brilliant frame. Can punch far above its 120mm rear travel would suggest, especially with a better (bigger) fork up front - 140mm would be brilliant.

As for the weight, it's probably in the wheels, fork, cassette and so on... depending on what spec it is, that is. If it's a Suntour XCM / XCR or RS XC30 then yeah, that's where the weight is. Also, the stock rims are heavy.

Been riding a 2012 Trance X for a week.  I reckon as a budget option in today's climate it's nice move.  It's pretty sporty and with a 140mm fork slackening it to a more modern angle I reckon you'll be riding 80% of the trails in SA in comfort.

What I did realise though is that even with the 125mm fork the front end was tricky to keep down on steep climbs.  With 140mm up front it may become a bit more unpleasant to climb with, but this wasn't exactly dealbreaking stuff.

I think if it's in good nick and cheap, go for it.

Cool thanks. I confirmed yesterday that it is a Trance 4 frame

Trance X4 (26") or Trance 4 (650b/27.5").

I built up a Trance X4 for my wife, great bike, really capable

how about this ;)

nice, but your rear tyre decal alignment is out by a few mm relative to the rim decals :P

I'm not sure whether this qualifies as an Enduro bike (maybe the criteria has already been discussed somewhere in the 4000+ posts) but I'm hoping the Pike and dropper will get it over the line even if the travel in the rear is not huge. I'm aware that Crest rim in this thread is an absolute no-no but it's an interim thing okay.
