spoke to the surgeon today, if they operate, i won't be able to ride.. the pins and wire etc could break off inside..

second option is to treat and see if it recovers enough in 3 weeks, get a cast of sorts, do the race and then operate afterwards.. got appointment to see him on tuesday to get better X-rays and chat re the options.. holding thumbs and saying prayers..

sorry to hear about your accident !

hope option 2 comes through for you

So when do you guys start the taper?I am still planning on a big week this week but no more runs longer than 20km.

Next week will start doing only short stuff.

Swimming I will have to keep at right up to the event I think...still far behind.

This year I am nowhere close to the form needed so I propably have to be careful of overdoing now.

Came down with a cold last Tuesday so did nothing until this morning.

Slight change of plan. Two big weeks still and then only one week taper. Not ideal but gotta play the best possible hand.

So my ironman is 99% over... Car hit me today! amongst other injuries, I broke my hand, operation on Monday - final call after that...

terrible news. its hard to do after putting in all the training, but look long term and do what is best in terms of recovery. There's always next year to get another IM medal, but you've only got one hand and one chance to fix it as good as you can. good luck

pushing it so close to the race probably won't help at all. I'd stick to maybe one more week hard and then two weeks taper, too late now for big training to make a bit difference imo

Caught between a rock and a hard place. Agreed a two week taper is ideal but I lost a whole week in the crucial peak phase.

Wont do a long run two weeks out but I don't see the harm in a long ride.

Oh No bud, the worst possible thing, I hope you make a full recovery. Be sensible and listen to your doctors and your coach. Hope it all works out for the best

I would focus on some long rides on hilly routes pushing pretty easy pace on the hills and then working harder on the downhills in practice for the PE bike course, also go for a number of over-distance swims, keep the runs shorter and at your IM pace.

Terrible outcome. I hope you get a good outcome today.

Is it Andy Potts that does 90% of his IM training on an IDT? Whoever it is cited interval training and safety as their main motivations, if I recall correctly. A unlucky break like this one makes you think about that. I looked at the IDTs at the Argus Expo and wondered about it. When I go for my 1st IM, I'd definitely consider doing most of my final 8-10 weeks on an IDT just for safety sake...

Sorry to hear this, good luck and hope you heal quick and 100%

In the worst case scenario that you cannot take part, then keep in mind you wont loose all your fitness and can use all the training once you healed up for another goal...

Thanks for the advice. Will do that for sure!
