Interested in hearing what gearing Roadies use on the single speed bikes and who they ride with. Please post some pics. Road bike pics lost amongst the MTB singles in other topics.

Ended up making/modifying a chain whip for 1/8".

quintonb, what is hilly. I intend to use mine for the odd commute to New Germany from Hillcrest. What ratio can you suggest?

Riding down is fine, its getting back up thats the issue.

I ride up High Street with a laptop bag on my back, so for me these ratios work well.

geez, had a look at high st, not long but it does get very steep in some sections. I'll need to ride up Wyebank (Sander, Glamis & Pioneer rds - 4-6% for abt 2k) to get home.

Ratio's are pretty tough, I know it can seem expensive, but I recommend buying a couple of sprockets to test what works/feels best.

The first ss I built is running 42:16. My Daccordi ss is now running 42:13, and I rock it up some big climbs here in PE, and the other nice thing is I don't 'spin out' on the flats often. So it's worked out to be a far better ratio for me.
