I'm running the Reynolds AM rims on I9 hubs / spokes. After building many sets of Enve wheels I can honestly say I'm happy with my choice on the Reynolds. Great construction, amazing quality and super easy tubeless installation.

...not to mention after months of abuse they are still true, dent free and holding up.

Dent free?

How does one dent carbon?

Mate ordered some 24 spoke (yup, only 24 spokes) Chinese carbon rims and he's abused them big time. Still dead straight. And if you use light spokes and hubs, you can get them to about American Classic Race 29'er weight.

I'm interested in the Chinese wide carbon rims on I think Light bikes? They have a 120kg weight limit , 23mm inner diameter and weigh about 380grams ( about the same as Crest), price seems to work out to about R2500 per rim including shipping.

Anybody else keen to try these?

What is the advantage of carbon rims?

I can do tubbies, 300g a rim, but 28 hole. ( I can organise ENVE tubs, which are 50% more expensive @ 280g)

I will recommend them if riding a dual in marathon, or if you doing a lot of XC riding.

Wheelset sub 1400g, and tubbies are 500g each. Pretty much the lightest method of mountain biking tyres and wheels.( only 85 Kg weight limit) 1600g wheelset gives a 105 kg weight limit, also super prices.

My understanding is that if you look at a sub 400g alu rim like the Crest you need a very good wheel build to keep it running true.

A sub 400g carbon rim should be much stronger allowing you to build a hassle free set of wheels.

I've never built up wheels myself but would be nice to here from someone who has build some custom carbon wheels and Crest wheels about how easy they built up.
