The branch falls under Hattons PMB not Pinetown.........There is no longer a Hattons in Pinetown, it is now called KT cycles and the owner is a very helpful and respected person.

I hear what some of you guys are saying. Yes it is a sunday, he's probably paying his boys double time, and he's there to make a profit etc etc. I understand this.

What really peeved me off, was that he didn't really seem to care about my problem, he only seemed to care about my R100. Secondly the link literally took less than 5mins, so I think R60 labour is steep, but whatever.

Thirdly if he had fitted the correct link and it had worked, I wouldn't be complaining. But like I said he didn't even care enough to check he was putting the correct link.

And lastly if he had listened to what I had said about the cassette possibly being stretched then maybe he could have just said "well then you're out of luck, sorry man". It irritates me that he didn't even appear to be too clued up on bikes.

Well my advice to anyone would be to stay away from them at the KZN races... perhaps I just had a bad experience, but bad enough to never use them again.

I would suggest you to email to lay your complaint and they might sort it out for you and might improve next time.

Slightly off topic but about good service. My tyre burst about 15k's from the end of the 60k route and just about every person who came past asked if i was ok or needed help. Nice to see lots of caring riders out there after lots of negative reports lately. Thank you to all who offered to help.

Match that stretched cassette to a set of those Q rings and you may have something there....

Fitting a quicklink is easy, why didn't you just buy the link for 40 bucks and fit it yourself.

What I would like to know is how they got a 11 spd link to fit a 10 spd chain. isn't the 10 spd chain thicker than a 11 spd chain

Maybe they are better mechanics than we give them credit for. Next time we can ask them to fit a 26" tyre to a 29" rim. If they get it right they've got a customer for life. :whistling:

We should stop wining about service and start doing simple things like that ourselves.

I've been cycling for 13 years now and I have seen bad service over the years.

Get a bicycle how to repair book and start learning to service and repair your own bikes.

When you do it yourself you will be sure to know how to fix it in a race.

The bike shop guy sounded pretty reasonable, although bit over priced, not necessary for rant.

If you are on good terms with your LBS, they probably would've fixed it up for free...

Edit: Quicklinks are crap. I always carry chain breaker
