I don't see what's wrong with people taking Strava seriously. I mean, now I can compete without another cyclist in sight. Bit like The Hub, where we can socialise, meet new friends, make enemies and offers words of wisdom without another person in sight. All in the name of technology ... :whistling:

different strokes for different folks. If you find it boring, thats fine. Other people like to push themselves in their training and strava KOM's is a great way of doing just that

Exactly...

Why not enter a proper race(like usian does btw, where people line up next to each other) and measure yourself based on that. Strava is cool, fun, quirky but as a measuring stick for your ability....mmmm dunno so much.

Try lining up 500 okes on a singletrack downhill... :w00t:

Wouldn't it just piss you off if you opened your Strava profile and found that 3 of your ligitimate rides were flagged, all in the space of 5 minutes? Yes, I know that you can now just "unflag" them yourself, but some idiot was probably pissed off because I took his KOM and is now just flagging all my rides for no reason.

Strava cannot reveal the name of the flagger, so there is just nothing I can do about it.

Am I taking this too serious or would it also piss you off?

I would seriously consider getting a expert hacker to trace this guy / girl flagging your KOM's. And when you do find him / her, flag all his / her rides and get back at him / her. Eye for an eye I say

so why are people being called "sad" because they like different things to you?

It's sad that they win a virtual race and get upset because they got flagged. Race away on your training ride, you know what you achieved who cares if you got flagged

Because they think that because they klapped phillip buys on 4 min section he instantly becomes your bitch....Which is what I would have to assume if I look at some of my numbers....they mean nothing, race results do however.

That I guess is the crux right there...

Some people ride to train for the next race. Training is everything.

Others ride to enjoy the ride for what it is. Freedom is everything.

I personally think they are sad, not because they like different things, but purely because they use Strava for validation and have gotten to a point of using it in their local area to try and "make a name" for themselves.

bragging rights? Same goes for winning P bunch at the argus. No one really cares, but its still cool to tell your mates at work on monday that you won P bunch. And if some tosser took a shortcut and beat you, you'd feel hard done by. You trained honest and did the ride. why should someone else illegitimately steal your thunder.

I think its more sad they people flag legitimate rides so they can claim they're the fastest when they arent
