I once rode over a big snake. I screamed like a girl and tried to lift my feet but was clipped in hard like snot on you cheek on a winters morning. I never destroyed my shoes like that but im sure my cranks are now bent.

i am always scared that my shoes end up looking like that when i try and crank my singlespeed up a steep hill.

The fact that the OP came off unscathed is a reflection of a skilled crasher.

a very important part of mountainbiking is knowing how to fall.

... that you rip both soles right off your shoes?!?!

Took a bit of a tumble at Big Red Barn on Saturday. Carried too much speed down a descent, into a drop off, into a corner... and subsequently, rather ineloquently, dismounted by tossing myself over the handlebars.

Now, I've gone over the handlebars before, but never have I ripped the soles of my shoes. I was wearing my Sidi Dominator Pro 5's which are about 18 months old. So, the shoes aren't new and have some mileage on them, but I didn't expect this. I'm baffled.

The shoes I wore at my wedding now look like that, but that is a whole different story... I'm riding red barn for the first time this sat, thanks for the confidence boost! Hehehe. Glad your okay tho b

Enjoy, the red barn is fun, although not really aesthetically pleasing. They've really went through a lot of effort with the trails though, and it shows. But I digress...

We went there thinking we were "skilled" mtb'ers as we've been riding for quite a while and I got my ass handed to me by the black route.

Dude I feel like a complete novice after my first ride there last weekend, I respect the trails and other riders enough to elegantly take the chicken run on the jumplines, but one day .....

I have to say, I love the tracks, they really made an effort in creating some nice flowing tracks.

Although there were a few guys on motorbikes on the trails on Sunday, quite annoying

At least 18 months of use, I now fear for my SIDI's, better adjust my pedals for easy release!

Maybe there's a market for self unclipping pedals with automatic crash detection afterall.
