This looks like a classic case of wow look at the Giraffe, lets get a great picture...........and then it goes wrong.Clearly the Giraffe was there first and its not like it could have hidden behind the tree. Cyclist should have stopped way before he got there and waited for it to move. From the picture it looks like he was so close that he could touch his arse. Must have been a male Giraffe Unfortunatey we have become accustomed to how tame the animals have become in Groenkloof but we must still treat them as wild. We must not start aggravating the animals, they might just start becoming hostile and its not just cyclist using those trails. A lot of hikers, trail runners and parents with small children using them. It could end a lot worse for someone else. North Shore, slowpoke and Uni 3

Bongoleo Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 Happened to me as well.Same Giraffe the dark coloured one.Was with 2 smaller giraffes, and took a swipe at me with its head narrowly missing.Was a bit shaken by the incident, its not like you can run away and climb a tree to escape.Ostrich chased my wife as well, that was funny.Had some encounters with guinea fowl as well, attacked by a few when they had their chicks with them.I suppose its the time of the year with all the newborns around.Oh yes, and the snakes start coming out as well now. RudoJ Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 (edited) Stop giving the Strav-@holes ideas I wouldnt try my luck with an ostrich, even if I was super fit, on strava and a Strav- @hole...what some people do just to get hits on youtoob and FB continues to amazes me.Like most hubbers said: Its a nature reserve, the animals are wild, not tame. Just maybe used to cyclists and runners in THEIR habitat. Respect the animals and ride around them or wait.
