Thanks for all of the help so far.

Quite a lot of options so far which is a bit daunting for a full susp noob!

1. The original specialised that I posted. If I can get it for about R10k I might be still interested. The age (2009) puts me off, even though its practically new. Resale will suck.

Not with that shock and not that old in terms of MY. 2009 means no tapered steerer which won't be ideal. Coming from a DJ background chances are you will take to the air more often than not so would need all the stiffness you can find. Spaz is also one of the manufacturers that feel or see the need to tinker with their bikes every single year

2. New 2011 Trance X2 @ R15k.

Again, not bad, but (and I don't how you ride) you hit those jumps hard the Trance will run out of travel, head angle and stiffness pretty soon.

3. 2013 Commencal Meta AM 3 @ R22k (CRC import)

From the 4 you have listed this would be my option.

4. The 2013 Reign - The guy is selling but he is not sure when, still waiting for his new bike with no specified date.

Cool bike. Much rather this Giant than the Trance from what you've said you'd like to do.

Also, about the Trance... isnt it on the more XC side of things? Although I did see Sorge throw some huge backflips and 360s on it @ Redbull Joyride.

Have you got any links to the joyride?

What year was it?

Edit: This looks like a trance

This year.

I can't find the link now but if you want the Joyride highlights you will see. He does some pretty huge backflips, 360s and tailwhips. Here is is at Joyride:

I did a google search for "joy ride" and what I found could not be posted on a family rated cycling forum!

LOL.

You don't want to know what I found when searching for Pacific Rim torrent couple of months ago...

Thanks for great advice but can you please translate the first part about the spaz into lay mans terms? What do you mean with "Not with that shock" etc.

I'll check your PM out now.

He means the quality of the shock is such that you shouldn't even consider the bike. Shock, not fork. As in the rear shock.

i have a trance with a decent fork and shock, and even though it's light, that damn bike is in its element when you really lay on the gas. Go abit slow, and it feels flimsy, but i think that if you set your damping properly, you will not run out of travel. Ppl set their suspensions for plushness thinking its' the same at all speeds. Noob mistake. If you hit stuff hard, u have to up the stiffness. But all personal preference i guess.

anyways, while there is no doubt better out there, u won't go wrong with a trance.

To wit, I'm eyeballing the 2014 Trance SX. So much of yum!

The 2014 SX rocks! Would be my choice too coming from a Reign background - but I won't since I am sorted for life!
