Totale openbaring!
Iwan Kemp Posted November 15, 2014 Author Posted November 15, 2014 My new Vipa. Will share some proper pics as soon as the final build is finished
DJuice Posted November 15, 2014 Posted November 15, 2014 KvdpJou Vipa is baie mooi! Enjoy!!!Ps. Ek is jaloers
rotorbug Posted November 15, 2014 Posted November 15, 2014 A question re the 80mm travel. Is it measured at the rear axle in terms of vertical travel? Reason I ask is there is not 80mm of travel at the Fox shock. In terms of rear shock set up, what model is fitted to the VIPA? Fox site lists about 7 options depending on travel and none are as much as 80mm.
Captain Fastbastard Mayhem Posted November 15, 2014 Posted November 15, 2014 A question re the 80mm travel. Is it measured at the rear axle in terms of vertical travel?Reason I ask is there is not 80mm of travel at the Fox shock. In terms of rear shock set up, what model is fitted to the VIPA? Fox site lists about 7 options depending on travel and none are as much as 80mm. yes, it's vertical wheel travel. The shock never really has the same travel / stroke length as the frame, as there are linkages and pivots in the suspension design, that form something called a "leverage ratio" The higher the leverage ratio, the more the wheel moves relative to the shock itself. For example - my Reign X has a 3:1 leverage ratio. What that means is that for every mm my shock moves up or down, the wheel moves 3mm in the vertical plane. My shock's stroke is only 57mm, but my rear wheel travel is 171mm. There are also a whole load of other calculations and factors that come into the leverage ratio of a bike's suspension design, and why a designer would choose a certain leverage ratio over another, but that's another thing entirely...
Iwan Kemp Posted November 15, 2014 Author Posted November 15, 2014 What Mayhem said. Have a look here:http://momsenbikes.com/index.php/vipa-full-suspension http://momsenbikes.com/images/frame_tech/VIPA_4.jpgWith a relatively low (by 2014 standards) leverage ratio starting at around 2.12 and ending at 1.99, this design coupled with the RISING TO FALLING CURVE can produce a plusher ride than other short-travel designs. It also means that the bike has a very LINEAR feeling compared to designs that require higher leverage to active the rear shock. Q: What does 2.12 LEVERAGE RATIO mean? A: The rear wheel needs to move 2.12mm to move the Rear Shock Shaft by 1.0mm
Iwan Kemp Posted November 16, 2014 Author Posted November 16, 2014 FAVOR TIME! Any of the Cape Town Vipa'ers (Northern Suburbs would be great) not using their Stealth port willing to lend it to me till I get mine from Momsen? http://momsenbikes.com/media/com_hikashop/upload/thumbnails/300x300f/vipa_par25--no-22-.jpg
rotorbug Posted November 16, 2014 Posted November 16, 2014 Which Fox shock in the table below is the Vipa rear shock? Not even the dealer knows! http://www.ridefox.com/help.php?m=bike&id=68
Iwan Kemp Posted November 16, 2014 Author Posted November 16, 2014 I know for a fact it's 165mm eye to eye. If my memory doesn't bomb on me it should be the 6.5"
rotorbug Posted November 16, 2014 Posted November 16, 2014 The Fox table refers to the travel of the damper. First table is for rear shock and second table is for the front fork. I would guess from the leverage ratio that its the 38mm version. (80 divide 2,12 = 38mm) The dealer pumped the rear shock to 150psi but I am down at 100 psi and it feels pretty close. Fox are known to inflate their suspension pressures a bit. My front fork, I am down at 60psi. I weigh 72kg.
rotorbug Posted November 16, 2014 Posted November 16, 2014 If anyone is having issues with the cables slapping each other or the underside of the bars, SRAM make these cool cable routing gizmos. They are hard to get in SA, but Amazon has stock. I am using VELCRO cable ties (Never seen them in SA), also available on Amazon or eBay. The VELCRO cable ties sort out the annoying cable chatter.
kvdp Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 KvdpJou Vipa is baie mooi! Remme ook xx world cup.My eerste Sram/Avid remstel en heel verbaas oor stopkrag.Ek is gewoond aan xt/slx remme,so dit verg baie om by te verbaas. Wiele is my gunsteling Mavic Slr.Momsen 715mm bar en 60mm downer stem laat my stuur in regte rigting.
Enjoy jou Vipa! Baie mooi.
Iwan Kemp Posted November 25, 2014 Author Posted November 25, 2014 My Vipa build is nearly finished. Only piece of the puzzle still left is the stealth dropper.
