I'm working on developing a new mobile cycling application. I've fiddled around a bit, and done some research on what is out there. I like Strava, and enjoy some of the route planners, but so far, nothing seems particularly special.

I'd really like to do something that everyone would appreciate. So, if you would like to let me know what you feel would make a cycling app more usable, attractive, and must-have, I would be most appreciative.

Post it up here, and I promise I'll do my best to integrate it into our new (FREE) app.

Is status important? Would you enjoy a sort of achievement-based app that gave you physical and virtual rewards and discounts when you reached your goals, or achieved new records?

Also a way to show off to your cycling friends and partners?

I know this is not the app itself.

I'd love to record say with Strava or Garmin, upload to a App on MAC... :D

And then be able to pic a section of the ride, any section, does not need to be listed/labeled as a segment and compare this against previous rides over same section, and if I chose expand this to compare against others that rode it before.

Second, 3D, look at the ride and actually see the route ridden displayed in 3D, IE show how I rode round a corner and then started climbing.

While at this, group rides into venues ridden and routes at the venue, aka bike park and Blue route.

Think the features that Strava have atm is pretty close to spot on.

One feature I've seen allot of people ask for is show me route, upload a route to device and then show turn by turn. Pretty much one of the most requested threads I think

Maybe a Reminder function where you can be reminded when its time to check the Stans, or when it time to swop/check the chain etc.

And a calendar-type of logbook where you can enter your daily activities. Whether it was just spinning on the trainer or long rides or intervals or climbs or whatever. Something seperate from the Garmin/Strava type of downloads where you dont have to go online and download files to check you weekly tally so far.

What are your objectives with this app? It's a pretty broad spectrum and to create an app that encompasses all areas in one is going to be a big undertaking and expensive especially if you're going to give it away or will you be including in app purchase / premium content?

- All major GPS direct uploads (Garmin, Bryton etc).

- Live tracking / route monitoring

- Live broadcast to selected friends / users so you can see if they're on the road / hill / if you can chase them down on the road. Private function and only for approved users.

- Required permits / costs for areas

- Emergency msging button, sending the gps location to predetermined numbers via sms (simplest to get through a network in remote areas)

- What does Strava give out for the 'premium' paid version? Give that for free as well.

Right, enough crowd sourcing for now.
