Have any of you ever had to replace the bearings on a Campag hub? There isn't enough KY in Africa to soften that blow..... I share your pain Garfield.

Not yet, but I'm scared.

It might be expensive now but unique parts usually are. Especially if it is for a TT bike which isn't generally as widely used as a normal road bike. But the longer you ride the bike the cost per km comes down.

True..........a few years ago I subscribed to an American magazine. Cost R168 for 12 issues which is basically R14 per copy, delivered to my door. The same magazine (back then) sold at CNA for R65.00 per copy. That is a 460% markup on my landed cost.

If I could get it for R14, surely, they could get it for less.

No.

What applies a few years ago doesn't apply now. When you ship in bulk (especially paper) your transport and distribution costs increase exponentially.

The same applies if people from overseas subscribe to a local magazine.

Anyhow that's all besides the point of the topic. R800 for a seat clamp .... FFS!

Now that is my kind of fuzzy logic :-)

So if I spend more time on my bike than in my car - it should cost more? That sounds like good and proper logic to me.

Great logic, I fit that category.

Go "dude" yourself. And while you are at it go and learn some economics. Terms to look out for is monopoly. I dont like paying R800 for something that cost R10.

No need to be rude. Maybe you got charged R790 a$$hole tax.

I am 100% with the ripped off guy ... can't tell u the ridiculous things I have paid for on my mtb ... latest had to get new left gear shifter but of course bike shop will only sell in pairs ... brake lever screws seized when changing shifters resulting in R550 charge for engineering company to get said screws out ... that is 1200 spent on stuff that added zero value to my bike.

I have been keeping a log of my kms and costs and my bike costs me R4/km to ride in respect of servicing and maintenance.
