Just another reason why motorists hate cyclists

Was driving down Frans Conradie opposite brights and PnP in Boston yesterday and saw this bunch of guys cycling up the road. When I spotted them they were riding 4 abreast and talking and not giving a damn about any vehicles passing them. as I approached they made some poor effort to get out of the road but still riding 3 abreast! so I had to change lanes to pass them and hooted at them and got flipped off by the most right hand side guy. Obviously some UBER funriders training for the double century and giving us cyclist a bad name, and then people are surprised why there are so many accidents that include cyclists...

Technically as the law stands, one guy is on the road way, he is not breaking any law. You on the other hand would have broken the law had you not changed lanes to pass them as there was one cyclist occupying a lane.

There is absolutely no law to be found in the National Road Traffic Act 93 of 1996 that prohibits cyclists from riding legitimately in a traffic lane, no matter what the speed of that lane is. Other than on a motorway.

There is no mention whatsoever of a slower moving vehicle having to move over for an approaching vehicle traveling at a higher speed. And a bicycle is defined as a vehicle in the Act.

A cyclist, has every right to use the whole lane when riding by law (NRT Act 93 of 1996). A cyclist also has the right to overtake other bicycles on their right side.

And I know the law states you cannot overtake an overtaking vehicle. But the fact that I try ride on the left of the lane or in the yellow is my consideration for other road users. Not because I have to.

I also have the right to ride in the lane I'm in without being hooted at aggressively or being intimidated by idiots motorists who don't know what my rights are or the law is.

The bull bar does not have emotion, brain or breath of life.

But the inconsiderate prat behind the wheel, he on the other hand has the ability to give the bull bar a way forward.

Exactly, and technically speaking those riders inside the yellow are the only law breakers as they are not supposed to use the emergency lane to travel in, but have broken the law for their own safety and consideration for the motorists.

1. Don't see that they are doing to much wrong besides the one guy. As mentioned he might be overtaking. 2.

All you guys that are having a dig as their sizes is just typical of how we cyclist are. Rude and obnoxious.
