Cape Town Giants at Durbanville HS FUNRIDE!

Although the focus of the thread is on the club named CT Giants, there's a teaching in there for all of the relatively stronger riders that hurl abuse at the slower riders.

yes, agree...there are many riding clubs that can take something home from this thread...it only takes one a-hole to taint the entire club...I'm sure ALL clubs have a few of them!!

BUT, when you are named & shamed...you better take it and start solving the issue...

happened to me in a league race also, they come cross line and interfere and swear at you and things...some words were exchanged between myself and him....he then noticed I am like twice his size...and a few minutes later he was off at the back. But it was a snotklap waiting to happen as I was ready with my backhand.

These people ruien it for cyclist, now if it was a newbie and he/she gets treated with an elbow or something they would not want to continue with the sport...tjops!

Doesn't feel good to be bullied, does it?

The Hub is merely dishing out a little today of what SOME of Team CTG dished out to unsuspecting riders on Saturday. We come here to vent, we don't do it on the roads.

Unfortunately the Team CTG guilty parties didn't have the courtesy to send an email to M starting group, or wait for a week before they behaved like hooligans. A few bad apples serve to tar the entire basket with the same brush. Fair exchange is no robbery. A little racing etiquette would go a long way.

racing etiquette in a fun ride?? you getting your knickers tied up in a knot

It's interesting to see how people jump to conclusions after only hearing one side to a story lets first get too the bottom of things before we make an already sensitive situation worse. The road is for all of us to use guys & if cyclists start beating each other up we will lose the little respect we have from the motoring community. I think that races should also be organized a bit better meaning full road closures as cycling is a fast growing sport & limiting the space for such big events is a disaster waiting to happen, just my two cents worth

Are you for real!!

I agree and concur. The only way to solve this problem is to having all sides heard and then it is up to to the exec of the Team to take action based on the merits of the case. The issue that is being raised here is a common problem whether you belong to a club or not. Somehow we cannot separate this and see it as one problem.

Do you feel I am being bullied, does it make you feel good to think i am being bullied? Again this type of emotional state with the type of words being used to bully others is not serving anyone, all it does is highlights the state of mind of the author (and the one who finds joy in liking it). Lets rather become unabusive in the response we offer, it will serve everyone better.

Makes one think a bit more clearly, don't you think so?

my opening line was a question. It illustrates the hooligan behaviour your team mates resorted to Sat, instead of the after-the-fact levelheadedness you portray. CTG would do well to learn that poor road etiquette can break bones but words can never harm them.

Ultimately the OP felt irked enough to broadcast the behaviour of a few bad apples, which he is fully entitled to. Only CTG can fix this going forward.

Interesting comment that you made, knowing the club receives fund from PPA? Please explain how you know this and what relevance this has to resolve your sensitive issue you faced? I think there maybe more to this than the complaint itself and I am happy that you will be meeting with the exec because then they can deal with all the issues directly to everyone's satisfaction.

It is called leverage. As in use the said leverage to get the club to clean up their act.

Jissie bra, you should be ashamed of your members if some of these stories are true.

Yes, in a fun ride, unless you're a cape Town Giant rider of course? Stick to the rules and treat others as you would like them to treat you (especially if you're part of a club). It makes fun rides more FUN, which is kinda the point of the exercise after all.

I think it is alleged hooligan behaviour and i think we ALL would do well with learning good road ettiquette. Fair is fair....

I'm speaking as an "independent", and only as one who is worried about cycling safety in races, may I offer the same sort of gentle advice you gave to the OP about how to react to a situation: don't play the "alleged" card. Jump on this... for all of us who love our cycling, and our little races.... er... funrides.

@Team CTG, unfortunately anytime branded item is worn and the wearee does something wrong, it is seen as a brand that has done wrong and not the actualy wearee. Same with company cars with branding and alleged perpetrators breaking road rules, it's much easier to point the finger to a company/brand then, than joe schmoe driving his beat up VW.

Hence, it's important for teams and clubs to instill good etiquette and remind their members to wear the kit with pride, and act courteously. Because it can prevent these kinds of scenarios playing out. The fact that you're on here debating about it is great. I just hope that you can portray to your club members the importance of keeping a brand in good standing with the general public.

Not ALL need to learn road etiquette, only those who don't have it. Stop being so sensitive, deal with the issue en ry lekker.

Nothing "alleged" about it, it happened twice on Saturday, probably more if others come forward. Charity begins at home, the CTG can show us they're not the morons they're made out to be in this thread.

Can't help reading these posts and thinking it sounds like a political rally and trying to win an argument with some of our politicians...

It is never going to happen, doesn't matter how irrelevant and obscure their arguments are.

CTG's, just face it, there are some of your members that have the wrong attitudes, which is detrimental to the sport of cycling and per definition the idea of a "FUN RIDE".
