SNAP...

I cant do forks though so that I do take in to someone who knows, I should actually say Ive never tried although I have all the tools to do it.

Maybe one day Ill give it a go when the need arises and I have the time and patience for it

Ditto, i do all my own maintenance, i don't like others working on my bikes!

Only thing i haven't done is Forks (MTB) and Shock services, not that much to it, think i'll give it a go next time my fork needs new seals & oil.

If you want to practice I have a Reba that needs a service. Well actually it had a service and now its not holding air so it needs another service.

I buy almost everything from them Agter gives good service and good deals, especially if you put him under pressure. But their workshop Noooooooooo wouldn't go near it. even the bikes I buy from them I strip down completely and rebuild when I get them home

I like going to the shop, I know it's highly unlikely I'll be ripped off... And they always seem to have the spares and parts that no one else does, so after the 8th time of going there last, I now just go there first.

They've been amazing when they helped me with an insurance claim for my wheels, and even gave me a fair discount to avoid being out of pocket on the excess.

However, just last week I took my bike in to have the parts swapped over from old to New frame...

They hadn't installed the headset properly, the wiring is not very neat up front, and when on my first test ride on Saturday, the gears kept slipping... Couldn't figure out for the life of me what was wrong... Until I stripped and cleaned everything, to discover they had put an 8 speed quick link on my ten speed chain... As said before, no problem to give me a new replacement, but it's the crap of having to go back...

Still one of the better bike shops in the city in my opinion...

I have.

It's in my garage.

Best bike workshop around, I have no complaints whatsoever.

I agree with you but sometimes time is an issue.

Now I know that when I pick my bike up from them I just do an inspection and they fix what needs to be fixed.

Then after the 1st ride I go back so that they can fix again.

Luckily they aren't too far.

Suppose the reality is the challenge to find good staff and then pay them peanuts.

I drove to Solomons from Magalies to have a new FD put on my partners bike. They messed around all morning (arrived around 10am) trying to sort it out and by 12:55 they had given up and said I had to come back in the afternoon as it was prayer time and ushered us out of the shop.

I didnt bother going back.

Used Solomons in Woodmead a few times and had good experience. Most recent I was looking for an Ultegra crank and the price they quoted was better than anywhere else. They fitted it for me no charge while i was in the shop, although i did supervise.

i buy smallish things from them, they have some good deals there. Anything other than that, I go to my LBS (Morningside Cycles) and have had nothing but awesome service there.

Ek sal ook graag wil weet. Ek het my Trek Superfly by hulle gekoop en dit was nog net smiles van daar af... ek het hom wel nie by hulle gediens nie...

Great specials, good prices in general, too far from me to make it a viable workshop for me. Do most of my maintenance myself. Anything that requires a specialist tool, i go to my local, Procycles in Benoni, always happy to help and end up having a long chat....
