Help us newbies understand appreciate our sport.

Who are the legends and unsung heroes who have helped / are helping to make mountain biking one of the greatest and fastest growing sports in SA?

Not only the big national names but also the ordinary guys who quietly get on with the job in your community.

Trail builders, teachers, riding buddies, people who push the envelope, champions, anybody who gives more.

People who make a difference. People we should all know and RAVE about.

Name, where and why?

For me It's the trail builders.

Bennet Nel

Mark Gordon

Nigel Hicks

Hilton Turvey

Oh and my adopted son Duran van Eeden. Love that kid.

(omissions are not to be taken personally Can't name everyone.)

To name but a few. Anyone who's done any trail work knows how hard it is and how many people bitch and moan.

Good question- we don't celebrate our mtb history nearly enough. Ken Pascoe has been at the forefront of building the Howick trails since we started building there in the early 90's. Absolute legend and is out there clearing and cutting and getting permission while we are all riding or working. See that Pyga recently recognised his efforts by naming their 160mm frame after him which is great!

There are many other names that could be added-mostly the guys that have been at it since waaay back and done all the disciplines at some point or another. Chris Nixon, Myles Kelsey, Meurant Botha, Oli Munnik to name a few...
