You have got to remember that the people who write stories against the Epic and the owner are just jealous little uniformed maggots.

I don't have my uniform yet, but ja I do think it's ridiculous how THE EPIC is the be all and all or mountain biking. Remember, there's enough epic finishers to fit into a springbok front row now.

You're welcome to justify it as a valuable personal experience, plenty of us think it's a rip-off and take our money elsewhere.

You can't stop now, I just put the popcorn in the microwave

My bad.

What I meant to say was "the Epic is a walk in the park". Anyone who finished ahead of me was on drugs and anyone who finished behind me is a loser.

Have at it boys

I've always said that value for money the Epic is terrible but value for experience it is priceless.

Joberg2C is a much better value for fun alternative.

Sadly the population in general thinks you're a hacker until you've done the Epic.

and hackers see it as a right of passage to call themselves mountain bikers.

Fact is it is just a very well organised, televised and marketed events that has created an appeal that justifies very high entry fees. Kind of like that exclusive night club that still sells Black Label but has a few more neon coloured lights than other clubs. If it wasn't well run it would not be seeing its 12th edition in 2015

Valuable Personal experience, In my Opinion 100% Correct

Rip Off? Debatable..

Almost 15000m ascent and Over 730km of Unbelievable trails that are put there to test every athletes emotional and physical being to their Core - NO Doubt.

No one ever said the EPIC is the "be all" but it sure is the Toughest/longest (barring J2C) most extreme mountain bike race in SA.

The Fact you haven't done one, or even the fact you are not EVER interested in doing one does not give you the right to belittle the race itself or the people who have completed it.

I don't know you (all the naysayers) and not sure I want to, but Ill put my bottom dollar on the Fact that if someone dropped a Free Epic entry in your lap you would grab it with both hands.

Total climbing is but one variable

There's terrain

There's overhead conditions

Suzi said it was the wettest Epic he's experienced. Wet conditions changes everythng, I reckon.

All i said was that a person that actually rode the epic said it was easier... i don't find it hard to believe him as he personally experienced the event

Heard about another event - Freedom something or other. You get a blanket at the end.

Ek verstaan.

They must've been fitter and more prepared and bring previous finishers, more confident.

Right there is proof that the race is too expensive. Most people I know want to do it but parting with ~R35,000* to do it is not to be taken lightly. R35K can buy you a week in most 5 star island resorts!

Mine was about R35K - entry, upgrade to bike, accommodation, flights, energy, clothing, odds and ends.

Haha, my apologies, cant argue with that..... Freedom Challenge is on the Bucket list (along with J2C and CPT), ticking them off 1 payslip at a time

Again, I cant and didn't argue with whether this race was a Rip off or not... It is ridiculously priced and as you added the 25k entry fee is just the first drop in an ocean.

My argument was the People saying the Epic is just a Commercial Rip off and they would "rather" do many other races. If costs were not involved I think they would have alternate Opinions of the race... that's all
