Guest Smimby Posted January 27, 2014 Share Three us were meeting Saturday morning at Nitida gate for MTB ride. I was riding up the back of Tiekie draai, when I saw the Nitida fence on the right hand side of the road down, I looked further to see Blue Tazz standing in the Vineyard. So I cross the road and go look at the gap in the trees where the car had gone through, only to find a person standing (well trying to stand) there talking on his phone. He finishes his phone call and I ask him.ME: Is that your car?Him: YeshhhMe: Were you driving?Him: YeshhhMe: Havel you been dringing?Him: I had a fewhes…Me: Why do you drink and drive, you could have killed someone…..See all the cyclist and runnersHim: I would have onlysh killed myselfsshMe: Buddy, your fly is open From the Vineyard appears the passenger / boyfriend?? Me: You could have killed your friend also! DALS towing arrives…… Me: Morning. Please don’t tow yet….we should wait for the police.DALS: The customer asked me to tow, so I am going to tow.Me: He has been drinking and it is a accident with damage to property. Dals then goes and removes the rear number plate, and hooks up the car…pulls it out the Vineyard and proceeds to hook it up from the front. He also chats the driver… The driver laughs, looks at me and says.“We are going to pay for the towing, and the driver of the car is not here, he ran away” Me saying to the tow-truck driver: Do you know that you are assisting a person to leave the scene of an accident. And drunk driving is a criminal offence and you are thus assisting a “criminal” to flee the scene of a crime?DALS: Did you see him drive?Me: He admitted it to meDALS: You do not the law!Me: I am going to report youDALS: Do that, my name is ######Driver: I will admit it, I drove but there is nothing you can do….So what……hahaDALS: Shut UP! And they leave…. I stand there, shocked……so is this normal practise for tow-truck drivers to assist drunk drivers to flee the scene of the accident? I am VERY happy that no-one was KILLED or hurt (Hope the driver and his passenger is full of bruises though).... See attached picture, I wonder how fast he was going up the hill to end up in the wynard? Tumbleweed Posted January 27, 2014 Share Isn't it only illegal to leave an accident scene if injuries are involved? Steven Knoetze (sk27)

Johny Bravo Posted January 27, 2014 Share Standard practice.Ten years ago I also had a drunken mishap on my birthday. They assisted me, and when the police arrived the car was long gone. I have since stopped drinking and driving completely. Capricorn, Starvin' Marvin, Tumbleweed and 1 other

90 Inch Posted January 27, 2014 Share The more people drink and drive, the more work there is for the tow truck drivers...
Guest Smimby Posted January 27, 2014 Share Lukily he left lots of parts at the scene and a document with his Reg number and contact details.....so I could at least give all the details of the car to the police. The Dals driver removed the number plate.... I also could give the details to the owner at Nitida...maybe he can get this drunk driver to pay for the damage to his property.... Guest Smimby Posted January 27, 2014 Share The more people drink and drive, the more work there is for the tow truck drivers... Surely it is not accepted practise to assist the drunk driver to leave the scene so he does not have to pay for damage to property....
Cellar Posted January 27, 2014 Share See attached picture, I wonder how fast he was going up the hill to end up in the wynard? As fast as his car could go. Same way most drivers (even when sober) drive on the roads in SA. BigDL

Shebeen Posted January 27, 2014 Share pic?I'm guessing you didn't have a phone/camera on you whilst riding, and took the shot from the road later. I applaud you for not just shaking your head and letting it go, it is a sad state that this behaviour is not unusual. I'm thinking that despite the general feeling of tow trucking industry, there has to be some with higher moral standards than the rest. Maybe taking the story to the company in case is going to be the best bang for buck in terms of protesting.http://www.dals.co.za/about-us.htmlDals Motors was founded by Mr Dal Gill in 1963. Starting with fifteen employees, Dals Motors, grew into a success story up until the mid-nineties. As Mr Dal Gill went into retirement, the company was bought over by Mr Tommy Nel and family, which is now known as DMG- Dals Motor Group. At present moment DMG has an employment rate of a hundred and thirty staff members. DMG has grown into three branches, consisting of 7200sqm workspace, with another branch opening mid 2011 in the Southern Suburbs, consisting of 4000sqm. DMG- Southern Suburbs will be exclusively a Mercedes Approved Auto body repairer. they're on tweetbook too.http://twitter.com/DMGMotorhttp://www.facebook.com/pages/Dals-Motor-Group/218536004840073 Cellar
