Pulled out my baby marrows 2 nights ago - been doing night time gardening cos it's soooo warm. I got the sum total of 3 marrows - one a beaut and the other 2 weedy and rotted too quickly. The plant takes up a major amount of space and mayb my spot is too moist but it seemed a bit miffy. I did grow from it from seed so quite impressed.

Slowly but surely establishing what we actually eat in the house so I have replaced the marrow plant (love marrows tho :() with cauliflower and broccoli, more brinjals and green peppers ( the last peppers Stodels sold me turned out to be chillis!)

Can't wait till artichokes are back in season.

Wish I could find Asparagus down here.

My Spinach is growing like a weed - had to blanch and freeze a very large bunch last week.

My butternut were looking promising.....

Tomatoes doing well - need to plant more - the last plant died after harvesting :(

Will be limited come winter due to sun issues but working on pot planting to aid this.

Grew something called a Pepino - interesting fruit but tastes too much like spanspek for my liking - plant bore loads of fruit - have now cut it back but it should regenerate.

Awesome job! Out of interest, where does one buy Pepperdew seeds/plants? I know they history behind them with the secrecy and cloak and dagger to keep it theirs, but I see more and more people growing them for personnel use.

Cheers

Not sure, mine came from a friend who got them in the Roodepoort area at one of the nurseries that side.

I have kept a couple aside to save for the seeds.

http://www.thepinkgeranium.co.za/ has some large asparagus plants available. I grew mine from seed, but it takes 3 years before you can safely harvest any.

Seems like your marrows got powdery mildew and were also stung by pumpkin fly. They are very prone to it.

Just remember that peppers / chillies are extremely promiscuous... they interbreed freely and if you had any other varieties around they will not be true to type.

Peppadew is a trademark - nurseries sometimes have stock and sell them as pimento or peppadew-like peppers.

some pics taken the weekend

Nice pics. Those cucumbers are the best - can't imagine that I will have to eat bland shop bought cukes is winter again.

If you have a glut of those it can be made into a delicious white gazpacho.

Oh Thanx Eitan - funnily enough I know where the pink geranium is cos I stopped in there yesterday for a mid ride cold drink. I didn't look at their veg tho as it would've been too sad not to have been able to carry back on my bike :P

Pumpkin Fly - I better google that cos maybe it can affect the butternut. I thought I was a bit too lucky with pests - marigolds and egg shells seem to be doing the trick but I think I should invite Mrs Roberts for tea. :)
