My roval hubs and spokes are giving massive problems, keep popping spokes out.

Mechanic has advised to rebuild with new hubs before the Epic.

Any views on these hubs? I just want reliability.

O and I love my Chris King road hubs....

Depending on how fast you want them and in what colour. . Hubby ordered red chris king hubs in Dec.. no stock, so he is still waiting for the shipment to come in.. apparently any day now.

I don't have Chris Kings, but I have been riding DT Swiss 240s for 9 years (standard J bend spokes). I have not had a single problem so far.

Johan Bornman disliked them. Called them 'swiss cheese'

Others seem to like them

That said the Chris Kings have more colours. And I think a higher bling value.

Also consider Hope hubs. Far cheaper than the two mentioned products.

Standard DT 240s hubs have slow engagement and agents/importers seem totally incapable /disinterested/ignorant of of sourcing the ratchet upgrade to double the engagement speed( standard DT part) ,the hubs are good though but you need special tools to service/remove some bearings. Not sure about CK but only heard good things. Hope hubs are too noisy but on the upside ,you won`t need a bell on the trail.

King or Hope, but King if you've got the option.

But that's just if you want new toys.

Your problem has nothing to do with your hubs though - what you have is a wheel that wasn't properly stress-relieved when it was built. Find a proper wheelbuilder who knows about stress relieving and get him to rebuild for you.

Yup

Droo hit the nail on the head there.

Sometimes the spokes twist on the tension or lock the nipples so they pretend to be true and tensioned but under stress they play about and become loose or sheer. (Very basic description for you)

There are a few ways to check this but hell, maybe the solution is to find a real wheel builder to lace you CK hubs and THEN stress test? That way you get to sound like an angry bee all day, have shiny new hubs that magpies want and deaf people can hear and the worms from Tremors will chase you forever!

Do it.... Only somewhere between 5 and 10 grand to drop....... I will do it for you if you want

I have a bunch of their sparkly CNC'ed ENO and ENO eccentric stuff.

They are very very attractive and magpie friendly...... They also dont make you embarrassed to stop pedalling in case you wake the okes sleeping in Australia....
