TRANSLUX driver transgresses then digresses

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

So I just entered Simonstown on my bicycle - wide dual lanes on both sides of the road - plenty of space.

Wheels 40cm from curb doing 30km/h Translux bus sneaks up behind me and passes leaving about 30cm between my handlebar and side of bus. Remember new by-law requires 1m space. MAJOR adrenalin rush but ok - try memorize plate (why?).

Blow me down 2km further same bus is parked outside station with driver window open - what an opportunity. I pull up next to bus and with a kind voice I ask the driver if he was aware of the new by-law of a 1m space between cyclists and vehicles.

Driver with a bland face looks at me and says "If you had to die right now do you know where you would be spending the rest of eternity?" (Classic evangelic question)

Dumbstruck - (almost) "I do but that's beside the issue!"

I am struggling to get hold of the right person at Translux but will pursue.

I did consider his question on the way home and thought it rather pertinent especially when he is driving a bus and I'm on a bicycle.

I would have assumed he was making a death threat.

An A-class douche for sure; pretty certain Translux will "take note and pass on your complaint for further investigation".... Like unicorns exist.

That being said, saw some cyclists giving a motorist some animated hand gestures this past Sunday, when he dared to go past them on Jonkershoek road, a bit to close for their liking. Ignoring the fact they were riding, not two but three abreast. Afraid rules and laws cuts both ways and we as cyclist conveniently ignore our own transgressions.

Give them right of first reply and then go social media , newspapers , police kamikaze on their heads - too often we get all indignant when it happens but we soon lose interest ( or get frustrated with the system) and let it go.

He threatened you with that statement mate. I agree with Cellar. That driver probably has kids cycling too, lets hope the wheel does mot turn on him. Most of the buses leave a 30 cm gap, i had 2 nasty experiences recently, i basically s*** myself, it was close really close. There is absolutely no reason for any vehicle to come close to a cyclist thats riding behind another.

They dont realise that when they hit you you will die even at 30 km

for the record Porqui, are you are that you can open a case of Common Assault against the fool, (never law says that assault doesn't need to be physical or verbal, but in any situation where you the person feel threatened in any way or form), yes what would it help its court its this and its that, well maybe its the wake up call the driver needs, it could be the wake up call the bus company needs to train all its drivers, as for his statement, well we all know we are going to Heaven as for him, well Vaseline and torture do come to mind. i am just glad you were not harmed, but it does scare me all this senseless violence and stuff going around, we have become such a angry selfish un caring Nation ... Wild West knocking on the door i think.

Another religious devotee seeing no need to connect it to morality.....or reality.

Everyone is so ready to moer everyone else..??

Just saw that a motorist shot a motorcyclist dead this morning in a road rage incident..! \

Thank your lucky stars you are alive to tell the story, its more dangerous to confront someone, then to just let it go...

not necessarily bud, lots of people blaspheming out there with no "affiliation" to the "religion"...

This does raise an interesting question...

Is someone believes in "when it's your time it's your time" then why would they bother to take any safety precautions at all? How do you overcome that kind of culture?

How do you teach someone to help control your destiny (by not running you over) when they don't believe they control their own destiny?

It's clearly a religious quote/question and not a blasphemy of any kind......bud.
