Stick a regulator on the dive tank, problem solved. Every gas storage device needs one, compressor tanks can have 100L tanks compressed to 500kpa, regulator makes it useable by the time it comes out of the hose...

The problem is my tank no is no longer "ticketed" although it's in very good condition, so I could safely pump it to say 40bar. Problem is to find an ordinary compressor that does that. They seem to do about 10bar (garage) and then jump to dive school pressure (200+bar)

I'm kinda in no-man's land

Finally admitting Prince Albert is the middle of nowhere then?!

Paintball cylinders are filled to 800 odd psi.... JUST enough...

Small cylinders just dont have enough volume of air inside at 10 or 12 bar that an ordinary compressor will deliver to be much use - especially when car tires are involved.

Johanrissik - why not consider refilling your cylinder directly off a nitrogen or argon welding cylinder - should be able to find one of those easy enough in the middle of nowhere...

saw this at Midas the other day for R635...I reckon you could better for the same price, and I dont like that it runs of 12V...but I wonder if it would work?

Now that's a plan.

I'll see if the local kooperasie can get me a cylinder of nitrous oxide.......then I can keep all my clients happy ;)

This may have been said already but, you should not need anything more than a floor pump to set up a tubeless tyre IMO. if you do, you probably need to change the tyres or use a different rim strip. either that or you are just bone lazy :whistling:

Made one from an old dive cylinder, the only problem is that the local garage compressor will only do about 8 bar so it doesn't last very long.

No reputable dive shop will even give me the time of day (quite understandably  ) even if I ask them to only pump my old cylinder to 30bar.....they don't share my sense of adventure.

Should only cost R200 to have it retested and certified if its in good condition, then the dive shops will fill it for you again.

Thanks for that info

Edit: The advantage of the cylinder is that it's portable (25litre compressor is a pain to transport)

Have you ever used Kenda Small Block 8's?

I use foot pump to seat tyres and it works fine.

To ensure the tyre sits tight enough before you start, make sure the tyre bead is not in the centre groove of the rim.

I find with some rim and tyre combinations (small block 8 , helped a buddy with those) I had to add more tape to the centre , I use Ductape or the packaging tape with the string built in. Both are available in narrow width.

Yes, more tape does add some weight, but out on the trail, you will be glad it makes the job easy enough for a hand pump.

(Yes, handpump)

With better matched rims, my other wheels have Geax saugura (spelling ?) tyres that seal tight without any extra tape,or even sealant (no problem with foot pump use)

Another option is to bomb the tyre first to seat it, then hang the wheel (tyre not touching floor) Remove the valve an d insert sealant, replace valve , and because tyre is already seated, use foot pump (or handpump)

UST tyres...yes, heck I can seat it with a handpump....TR tyres...aikona boss. PS rim strips and UST tyres are heavy if your next question is why don't you change tyres then.
