Hi Hubbers,

So, with everyone showing me in no uncertain terms that I am way below the average regarding travel speed on my bike.

How acurate would these units be?

I guess all I would want is:

- Wireless

- Current speed

- Average speed

- Distance covered

Maybe a clock so I can see what the time is.

Which of the 2 should I grab or should I just get my cellphone attached to the handle bar with a decent app?

Cheers

Gary

I use my cell phone, but with power saving on the phone the screen is dead most of the time. I found that I am slower up the hills if the screen is dead than with the screen on...

I like the cat eye with LED backlight that is cool, but the ciclosport with PC config....Uber geeck in me calls for that one...

Personally I would go wireless if it comes down to you choosing a computer over the cellphone. Just my 2 cents

I have Sigma 1009 STS and love being able to download the details of the ride to my pc to look at in the future and analyze.

Maybe slow on the bike but I will beat you in a game of Squash!

Ha ha I don't doubt that.

But seriously, like broker said try to get something with a HRM. If you start getting serious and want to follow a training program, most require a HRM it is a great training tool.

Apart from following a training program and/or monitoring your fitness. If you are on Discovery medical aid with a HRM, you can upload your data to vitality and earn points. As mentioned earlier, would seriously think about considering a GPS unit such as the Garmin Edge 500

One with a backlight.. usually has all the other functions wanted... most forget a light which is very usefull if you ride at night

Thanks,

I dont ride at night :whistling:

I have a seperate HR monitor so you can still use it if you go running etc (I also use it when mowing my lawn along with the pedometer!)

Also see how well/tight the unit mounts to its fitting on the handlebar, I lost my Sigma last year at the Magalies Monster after turning my bike upside down to try and sort out the lekker noise my brakes were making....

Early morning winter training rides... When the frost adores the grass and when the fiance would not even poke her nose out the covers.... Best time to be on the bike...
