I know I'm a 94.7 noob, but wouldn't a good C batch rider be expecting to go under 3hrs? A batch riders maybe 2h45 or even less...?

3h09 from F Last year ... Looks like i will be lucky to even do a 3h10 on the new route

Unless there is a Pack of A guys that group up nicely

So I am not in the A,B or even C group, but rode my arse off last year to break the 4hour mark (20 mins faster than the year before) and now I am starting 11 minutes later in a later group than last year.

Really does not sound fair, and now I hear there is 500m more vertical climbing than last year.

Check RaceTec website for results from previous years and then compare your time with say the top 10% of the group. With a time of slightly under 4 hours I would say a double letter start group i.e. AA, BB etc. Perhaps HH?

The problem is to get the pack. Normally one will need a RACING license (which several of us don't have).

I don't think you need a RACING licence. A few year back they changed the criteria. If you were going to participate in SA's or events linked to the UCI you need a racing licence. Everyone else just gets a licence - what used to be the cyclosport licence.

Of course I could be wrong.

But if I am not and if you do not have a normal licence perhaps you can just pay R35 for a day licence. But if I was you and was worried about this I'd call the organisers and ask.

I agree with bored_girl, no need to panic. I can't see them ambushing unsuspecting riders at registration with racing license requests.

If it is really necessary to have special licenses I'm sure it will be communicated to us.

Remember its all a relative process, depending on the seeding index of the other entries.

If your seeding index did not improve, or improved only slightly, and you dropped a group or two back, it indicates the 'quality' of the field is slightly higher (in a manner of speaking).

You will still be place alongside riders within similar indices, so if you want a good time, make sure you are at the front of the group at start time.  Much better than starting with A and getting dropped like its hot.

I am not expecting to be in the first groups at all just a better group than last year, I have gone from JJ to KK while knocking 20 mins of my previous time.

Maybe I am just not seeded, oh well just going to have to ride harder and faster during the hotter part of the day, to maybe get seeded next time.

Have you done any seeding races this year? If not, remember that your ratings for previous races degrade over time. So a year later, your 2013 result would have degraded substantially by now.

Ja I'm sure all they're talking about is your regular 2014 CSI license that you can download off their site (looks like a drivers license that you then laminate).

You may be right, I have not done any races since 94.7 but have steadily improved from just under 5 hours 4 years ago to just under 4 hours last year and would like to break the 3H45 this year but it breaks your heart to be doing it in the middle of the day, when all your hard work seems to have gotten you nowhere.

Just feeling sorry for myself, must just get over it I guess and ride faster.

Am I assuming wrong - hubby and I are riding for the same charity. He is starting at 7h11 and I am only starting at 9h34. Surely the charities should ride together. Also hubbies times for races are the same as mine. Why have I been punished and all set for a suffer fest?

Value for money.

Should be starting together. Did the charity maybe not register you (though 9H34 seems late for a charity start, and 7H11 too early)?

Maybe he has done more races than you recently, and thus has a better seeding 'score' than you have.

Then buy a day licence. To participate in this event you need to have A licence, whether it's day, normal licence or a racing licence.
