Rain would not be good for a fair weather cyclist like myself. Anyone else that ware prescription glasses and cant really cycle without it? Things get pretty bad for me in the rain so I am really holding thumbs its a dry race. Well at least until 10am   :whistling:

Contact lenses???

I wear glasses full time and then use contacts with yellow lenses in my sunglasses when cycling in the rain and ive had no problems before.

exactly or they use it as a recovery lap.

I did 2 at the argus(3:10 & 3:57), now I want to do 2 and the 94.7 aswell 1st should be under 3 hours, I wonder If its possible to get the 2nd one under aswell, or atleast under 3:30

How about quantifying your second lap by:

1. Number of fellow cyclists helped with mechanicals.

2. Time spent soaking up the vibe.

3. Number of fellow cyclists encouraged and help to get over a climb

Racing a second lap is down right dangerous and the negative feedback from the people you share the roads with on your second lap will see the race organizers crack down and ban 2nd lap riding.

who said I raced the second lap? I took a gentle pedal and soaked up the vibe.

Averaged about 27 all the way.

I did encourage people up the climbs especially suikerbossie and I stopped at 2 water points

and yes I did have 2 extra tubes, but didn't come across anyone needing one

Why are you attacking me without knowing any of the facts???

Just relax, take a deep breath, keep to the left and don't wear earphones and all will be good ;)

Tried contact lenses before, but really battle with them. I have astigmatism (and pretty bad) so any major movement on the contacts makes it even worse than riding without.

That's my plan for this year.

In 2009, I received tubes and a bomb (from 2 different guys in VC) that enabled me to finish - the only year I suffered a puncture (2 nogal).

In 2010 and 2011 I was on my dual sus (2011, I pulled a half wheeler with a cooler box full of beers). Both times I stopped along the way to help a few with mechanicals, and the cyclists that were helped appreciated it.

Having been on the receiving end as well as having helped out in 2 events, it makes for a satisfying day in the saddle.

I just got an sms saying the roads are all tarred now but do the old sock thing over your cleats...hopefully the tar comment isn't a hoax;)

I live on William Nicol went past the start yesterday they were still busy were it joins the Mnandi road not finished yet. William nicol they are trying there best but still only one lane each side. The rain cant be helping. Will keep you posted if they open all lanes.

Not all sections have been tarred yet and the rain is delaying the final sections. Lets hope we get a gap in the weather between now and Friday.

The plan is to open all lanes late Sat night, again we need the rain to play along.

The Mnandi road start could be more hazardous than the Race 4 Victory sand road start.

This rain thing is worrying me a bit. Wondering if I need to put new tyres on the road bike to cater for the wet weather?

It feels like a waste to fit new tyres on a bike that I ride two weeks in a year (and every now and then on the rollers) but I guess it would've seemed worth it when I hit the deck on Sunday...

Just inflate them lower
