In one film – Clarkson's – a cyclist defuses a bomb with a red and a green wire. The rider cuts the red, the bomb explodes and the film finished with the lines: "Cyclists. Red and green. Learn the bloody difference." It's a joke based on the reputation that cyclists jump red lights.

Good point.

For thos Top Gear Nutters like myself, James, Richard and especially Jeremy, they have this whatever/I don't care attitude....

In addition, they are always taking the p!ss on the comments made by their fan mail.... Whereby some writer will write in complaining about a previous epsiode and when that happens, the sarcasm flows out of the screen like a river with these guys...

So whoever says what about the "cyclist vs motorist" against the message they trying to get across, they will finds some way of adding humour in their responses....

I actually watched that TopGear episode last night.

It was a very much tongue in cheek spoof based on the old English "public service" announcements that were quite prevalent in the 40's/50's & 60's.

What I found fascinating though is that there were extremely few incidents of car/biker anger whilst they biked through the streets of London for over 3 hours. All taxi/motorists where extremely polite and gave Clarkson & May plenty of space. The only problem they encountered was with the buses whose drivers couldn't have given a toss about the bicycles.

Probably had something to do with the Range Rover camera car and their overall celebrity status. I don't like those three much ("And he's not even a real hamster" - Stewart Lee.) But they seemed to give a somewhat gentler view of cycling then a full on rant.

Buses - they really really really don't give a toss.

I'm back there in a week or two, trying not to get murdered every day.

Being a seasoned commuter in London, I have to say that Clarkson's take on bus drivers was BS. No surprises there!

The London bus drivers are bloody good. They drive responsibly, indicate and only stop at designated stops. They give cyclists as good a berth as possible and are very patient. If I'm in a bus lane, they will move out, overtake and move back in when safe. I have NEVER been cut off by a bus.

The problem with them is that they are numerous, long and tall. So they are VERY intimidating. Being a moron and trying to squeeze in between two of them, as Clarkson tried, is VERY scary. Passing them on the left or trying to undercut them on the left while they are turning is also dangerous and very scary.

The simple rule is: don't be bloody stupid. Respect them, give them space when they are in front of you and all is fine.

(You must remember Clarkson has an ulterior motive here: he does not like buses. As far as he is concerned they clog the roads, are for the proles who can't afford a car and use up half the road for bus lanes that could be better used by his Ferrari)

Nope. I also have very few problems. I commute 34kms a day in the City and have had a handful of incidents: mostly people fast asleep while driving through roundabouts.

I have had two tossers in 9 months getting upset with me riding in the road. Both young, white louts swigging beer while driving to work at 6:30 in the morning.

Just to add, Jeremy actually bought his own bike which was discussed in last season airing.... Riachard also still made fun of him with a parody photograph of an Orangutan on a tricycle saying it was Jeremy....

I think I have watched about 1/2 a Top Gear before it ruined my day, what a tedious program. They love to slag others off don't they. Do something that actually adds value to humanity geezas..

Bus drivers have to TRY stick to the bus schedule and arrive / leave each bus stop on time, so ja they generally feel that everyone else should give them right of way and move out of their way...

I saw a bus here the other day hooting at a whole line of pedestrians who just emerged from a train station and were walking across a zebra crossing, he was stuck in a queue of cars who all had to stop for them. It just made matters worse because some of the pedestrians stopped to look at who was hooting at them...

Was quite funny, the highlight of my afternoon

Pedestrians are the lemmings of the free world...
