The last update was the cycling club has to clean up all the sachets from the Argus as well as perform community service by means of marshaling PPA races for eternity

I would feel a whole lot safer with these new marshals sorting out the motorists

I guess the lesson is that old club kit should rather be destroyed rather than given to the disadvantaged.

That just does not feel right.

So GluvsMTb,

the point of this thread is the brand impact this event is going to have.

MC2 is literally stuffed for a while and they have to regain credibility.

Bellville had to go into damage control

Alfa Coachworks had to go into damamge control

PPA had to go into damage control

Cycletour has gone into damage control

Every cyclist on the road is now riding with one eye over their shoulder. I'm brainstorming ideas on how MC2 can exercise damage control of their own as part of "community service"?

the effects of this incident are far reaching e.g. a non cycling colleague comes up to me in the office today and squirts me with water...

I look at her with raised eyebrow and ask if she is hoping for a wet t-shirt chippendal show

She says" Nah I was just wanting to see if all cyclists are aggressive when you add water.."

WTF???!!

Agreed. People generalize, they jump spectacularly to conclusions and they tend to overreact. We cannot change that. What was an innocent charity donation a week ago, now requires all sorts of provisions and conditions attached to it, making it simpler to not be involved than worrying about your corporate image. The real losers are the likes of Songo.info, MCC and MTN Qhubeka who will now have to work harder than ever to persuade corporate SA to see a potential value add by sponsoring these organizations.

It is sad that I am advised to no longer donate old branded kit to the likes of PPA or other deserving causes, because these kids need it so badly. Its not just recreation for them but an escape from violence, drugs and gangs and its a ticket out of their dire circumstances if they work hard enough at it.

Hopefully MCC and the rest of the cycling community can repair some of the damage, but we as a collective should work extra hard to try and ensure that cycling is not labelled as a sport full of law breaking ar$3holes with no regard for each other or for other road users.

Assuming she can read .... http://m.canberratimes.com.au/executive-style/fitness/blogs/on-your-bike/youre-a-cyclist-so-its-your-fault-20140205-321np.html

"In the road: cars dominate, but often it's cyclists who are blamed for congestion.

If you ride a bicycle, sometimes you’ll find that everything is your fault.

And I’m not just talking about the situations in which you find yourself while riding a bike. As a cyclist, you can find yourself being held accountable for all the behaviour of anyone who ever rode anywhere on two wheels.

The most popular spot for these accusations can be the office. If you’re known as “the cyclist” and someone wants to have a whinge about cycling ... ah yes, here they come, heading your way...... "

So at least there are people on both sides who can retain their sense of humour.

I would have guffawed loudly if I had seen this happen. I may have had less friends afterwards, but still.
