As previously noted by many, there is a fear of scratching the stanchions and then having a useless fork ... but in my mind, should the stanchion be damaged through use with poor maintenance or crash damage, all you need do is replace one of the stanchion tubes and not both with a CSU .... so in essence it should be rather inexpensive?

But "practical thinking" would let one think of less material, small packaging = cheaper shipping, less VAT on a lower cost .... but then again .... as you say "should" is not necessarily true in the cycling industry

Had a Maverick DUC32 and never had a fear of scratching the Stanchions, don't know of others who had issues either

Yeah. Not a scratch after 11yr on a DUC 32.

Finally got my hands on one of these bad boys last week.

 

Didnt have time to build a wheel onto the hub for a test ride but all in due time!

 

It would look so ridiculously hot a couple of SS bikes I can think of!
