KZN trailrunning sent out a mail the other day. One of the things was the AMUK 400 challenge.

I think its just their own made up name but its aimed at 4 100 milers in one year: Addo, UTD, MacMac and Karkloof.

Super cool

Sjoe.... I wonder how many takers there are for that sort of suffering.

Addo in mid March

UTD end of April

Mac Mac end of May

Karkloof in September.....

So 1 per month and then a bit of a break before Karkloof.

4k per race, 16k total entry cost, flights and accommodation weigh in at another 10-14k so close to 30k all in for the experience?

Meh.... The concept is cool, but it really is an undertaking. It is something I would seriously look at but have my heart set on PTL 2020

We went out to Pretoria East to run at Rosemary Hill this weekend.

They have permanent 5, 10 and 33 km trails set up. Very well marked and maintained. I think its mainly for mtb'ers so there is quite a bit of checking over your shoulder and letting bikes pass.

A very twisty and turny circuit, they only have x amount of space but they sure have maximized it.

Pan pan flat, but its a very nice area to be outside in.

Restaurant, awesome.

Nice thread...I love riding my MTB and especially single track..takes me back to my youth and dirt bike days....2017 Feb my son and nephew get me involved in adventure racing and then this trail running thing...NOW...I absolutely HATE running ...especially these tar pounding runs etc etc...I then skeem but hey this running along bush paths etc etc looks interesting...back at school in the late 70,s 80,s we called it cross country running...Sooo...I start checking out the ole bush paths around my local town that we used to ride our dirt bikes and BOOM...I am hooked on trail running....I really LOVE running bush paths?trails and we certainly have a few beaut ones in Slummies....

I am all for big challenges but I think running 3 100 milers in 3 months is going to end in injury, someone will manage but most will end up in deep **** or under perform in a few of them.

I do agree, but the winner would be the guy or girl who ran well within themselves for the 3 in 3.

Trying to race each one would end in tears, but getting home in each without leaving the kitchen sink out there and then smashing Karkloof would be what I would look at.

Knowing what Addo brings to the table and having done my fair share of Drakensberg adventures, scoping MacMac and it's 7500m of climbing this year will be pretty fun. I think those 3 all bring massively different challenges. Addo - heat heat and sand.. UTD - altitude and vert... MacMac - humidity, diverse conditions and lots of climbing!
