ON my 26", I had a Maxxis Monorail in the front and a Maxxis Crossmark on the rear, and I was very happy with that combo.

On my 29", I have got a Maxxis Corssmark for the rear (going to go tubeless), but the Monorails are not available in 29" yet.

Any suggestions as to which tyre I should use in the front, i.e. Ardent, Ikon, etc.

I would take the Ardent over the Monorail anyday in either 26" or 29", really nice tyre.

Had the same dilemma, rode 26" Crossmark on the back and Monorail on the front. For my 29er I used Crossmark rear and Ardent Front.

the Ardent has a transition when cornering I.E. As you lean the bike into the corner it starts to slide but then grips again as you lean further into the corner. so you will need to learn how to ride with an Ardent, if you are used to a Monorail. I actually don't like the Ardent and i'm thinking of running crossmark front and rear.

I rode my 26er this weekend at NF after nearly 2 years. I was throwing the thing through the twisty single track and it had absolutely no transition, was almost like being on rails. I seriously whish they would make a 29er Monorail

Use same combo on my 26" and it works a charm.

On my 650 I use Crossmark on the back and Ardent on the front.

Ikon rear and Racing Ralph front. Light, rolls well, grippy and reliable. I use it for XC, marathons and training. The Racing Ralph wears too fast on the rear but lasts well on the front. I did ±4000km on an Ikon on the rear and was still fine.

I have the same set up as indicated above - Crossmark on back and Ardent in front, it's a good set up. I've heard good things about the Maxxis Beaver, not available in SA as far as I know though. Ardents don't shed mud very well though.

Racing Ralph rear, Rocket Ron front.

Good tyres in terms of grip and weight. But that's where it end for me the price and the fact that they are not durable, especially for a commuter.... Ardent all the time

Running Maxxis Crossmarks on the rear and Maxxis Ardent on the front, but it seems to me that the Ardents are a "high volume" tyre which makes my 29er feel more difficult to control on the technical stuff going downhill.

A mate of mine is running Ardents back and front on his 26er Giant Trance and says that its bascially like a 27.5 now thanks to the Ardents....personal choice I guess.
