What period of time does base training take ? How do you know if your Base training is/was sufficient ?

There is definitely not one only way to improve your cycling. Base might still be best for pro cyclists who have 6 hours a day, but there has been a lot of research showing that if you only have 10 hours a week it's actually better to have structured intervals, hard and then easy, instead of moderate base.

In any case, intervals also improves your base.

For those that missed it, the OP said he basically has a month to train and from "I work Monday-Friday 7am-6pm" I'm assuming he can do about 10 hours a week. In that case I would train 5 days a week, two of about an hour each with very hard intervals, two for active recovery and one long ride.

But that's just me. I'm not a sports scientists so I probably don't know much. But I do read a lot!
