Review: Smoove Chain Lubricant

Squirt forever! Over applying any lube will cause problems. Clean properly, apply, remove excess until you can run chain between your fingers without noticeable residue. I find that cleaning a chain and sprockets that have been using Squirt is just so much easier as well. Each unto his own theory though!

Amen Brother! No need for expensive cleaning agents. Whatever you have in the house will do the job. Paraffin, dishwashing liquid even a small amount of washing powder and warm water, shake shake shake and clean!

My experience with Smoove at Saturdays Bainbridge Believe event, 6 hours, 74km later, a big build up on the jockey wheels, cassette and crank gears are all clean. Worst place for a build up....

Just make sure you wipe off the excess lube, if you do lube like a nube.  :whistling:

Works a lot better than most of the other lubes I tried before. No black chain and drivetrain.

How so?

Chain sticks like a mother had it fold over twice on itself after sucking to the chainring.

I am sure there are as many guys that will vote for it, but not for me I threw away 2 bottles after the race and buying some Squirt today.  It has always worked for me, good lube and protection and doesn't collect dirt like Smoove.  I have tested squirt in a lot of conditions especially in very wet and muddy conditions down in the Eastern Cape on stage races and it has always worked for me.

Pity cause I would have loved to support Smoove, being 'local' n all ;)

edit: Oh and Squirt doesn't take industrial type action and cleaning agents to remove afterwards like Smoove.

I'm pretty sure Squirt is also local.

Yip it is local, was more referring to local as in Gauteng, therefore the 'local' ;)

I always apply a good bit (cover the chain and links properly) about 20 minutes (a while) or so before my ride / race. And if I have time just a quick 'squirt' before the actual ride.

Put the nozzle to the chain with your fingers around the spokes steading your hand and the bottle a few mm from the chain and squeeze whilst turning the crank backwards.

That's how I do it, others might do it differently.

After this wknd's 3 day race I must admit that this lub does make the chain a bit sticky. Sometimes to such a degree that when you back pedal your chain goes "pap". Thought it might be a freehub issue but serviced it last week and the same happened in previous race. It does go back to normal a few km's into the race. Yes I do wipe away excess lube and ride around the block after application to make sure it gets in everywhere it should

Used Smoove this weekend on the CX bike and got terrible build up on the jockey wheels and on the crank. I lube my bikes the night before and it still did it... I now have NO idea why it is doing this... makes cleaning a hack
