Hypoxic training - does it work?

Recommended Posts

Is this just another gimmick or will it change my performance? Need something to keep interested over the long winter....

Where are you planning on doing this? I've also considered this but not sure of its benefits although there have been studies done to prove its benefits.

Must be something to it....seems like its another flavour of high altitude training...where would you get the equipment though

Yes, it assists.

Sports science says so.

But it's a weird kinda exercise.

I try it in the gym swimming pool whenever I can.

I use one of these. Helps me to control my breathing

wahhaaaaaa can picture it

I say rather go for a weekend to dullies or clarens and do some high altitude training...whilst consuming large amounts of craft beer / waffles / braai.

No equipment needed in the swimming pool.

The water is an aid.

I only use it on the indoor trainer. People will start running if they see me on the road

I've heard of a swim technique called hypoxic breathing. Basically, you swim lengths in the pool and increase the amount of strokes before taking a breath. ie. breath on 1,3,5,7.

Not sure if that's strictly hypoxic, but a swim coach I once met reckons it's a good way to train.

group buy?

I want to see if it works first but quite cheap if it lives up to the claims
