Seeing everyone's comments about not being to keen to join al the rest of the festival goers in town, I have a suggestion to run by you guys.....

How would you feel if we organized some light entertainment, food and drinks for after the event? We have the venue set up already so we might as well use it. It's out of the way of the "main" festival and should be nice and relaxed.

What do you think?

Make it family friendly (perhaps a jumping castle or kiddies race afterwards) and discourage excessive drinking (get the traffic dept to be visible close by) and you have a potential winner, provided that the weather holds :)

Great idea - as long as you have showers on hand? I am unfortunately out this year, work decided it is the annual strategy weekend away. Bastards.

Jumping castles and drinking ... cant go wrong :whistling:

If I may ask, why do you decide to host your event the same time as Wacky wine? Do you hope to attract people going to the festival, or is there another reason. A lot of us hubbers make a weekend of the further races, Greyton, Grabouw, etc etc. Unfortunately during the festival accommadation is nowhere to be found. I am in no way trying to criticize the event. I am just wondering. My weekend freed up, so I will be attending this year.

Wow, you really have a serious thing with drinking and driving. Hope you are as serious about wearing seatbelts. ^_^

For me I sip a bit of what is provided at the port stop (highlight of the race) which is at the top of the final big ascent and then ride off what ever effect it could possibly have. The bottle of wine I get at the end of the race comes home with me for the traditional post-race braai.

About the entertainment, it would definitely be nice for those that have family joining them.

I made the mistake in my 1st wacky wine to take on some port (and brannewyn) thinking that the finish would be just around the corner. Longest 4kms of my life... They also catch the newbies at Attakwas out with a spur burger and chips about half way just before the real climbing starts. Spot the newbie hey ;)

I don't mind a civilized kuier in public places, as long as people remain responsible and does not ruin it for others.

Never affected me on Wacky Wine. Even on Transkaroo a few weeks ago and I had my one waterbottle filled with coke and brandy and the top of Ouberg and the remaining 40km to Sutherland was smooth. There is also the Kopbeenskloof night trail run in September where you get plenty of "liquid support" on the way, makes the 20+km of running a lot more fun :-)

I think the one problem with this is that if they move the race to another weekend another farm/organiser will jump at the opportunity to host a new "Wacky Wine MTB Race" on the weekend of the festival, will people still drive through for both? Especially given that you also have the Hex River & Computer Mania races in close proximity within a month.

I've done this event a few times and it is great. The dronk people in Robertson is an entirely different matter though. It seems like wine festival is just another term for "Drink_tot_jy_neerdonner_en_drink_dan_verder" Don't get me wrong, I'm all for initiatives that stimulates tourism in small towns, but don't care for the mentality of many of the festival goers. Perhaps better traffic official presence / SAPS presence would sort this sort of thing out, who knows.

Back in the days if someone told me that one day I would be going to the Wacky Wine Festival to mtb and not be drunk in the streets I would have been horrified .

Still appreciate that port-stop though!

How farm are you from CT? Trying to find Paru farm on google maps but no luck?

Robertson is 160km from Slaapstad central.

That's exactly the reason, killing two birds with one stone. Ride early, and join the festivities later. Take a tent if there is no formal accommodation available. It was Brrrr cold last year.
