My thoughts are with a family that woke up dealing with sadness. As a rider I think if one had to choose a place and a time, this would be it.

Just picked this up off News24, anyone have any info? RIP to the cyclist and condolences to family...

"Johannesburg - A cyclist died after participating in a mountain bike event in Clarens in the Freestate on Saturday, paramedics said.

"Apparently, the cyclist collapsed just 300m from the finish line," ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said.

Paramedics stationed at the finish line were called by another cyclist to assist the man. When paramedic assessed the man they found no signs of life.

"CPR and advance life support was performed on the man for 55 minutes," Meiring said.

Afterwards the man was declared dead. "The cause of the incident is not yet known," he said.

I saw another thread about this, apparently it was a heart attack, just before the finish line of the 70km marathon, very sad, condolences to the family...

I saw him lying next to the road as I was finishing the 75km. There was a follow cyclist sitting next to him with Waynes head on his lap and trying to give him water. I sprinted to the finish to call medics. Very sad moment and my thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends

RIP Wayne

I saw him lying there while they were doing CPR when I came into the finish. It was a very sad sight to see.
