I reckon you will get some barely heard of adventure racing machines from all over the world coming to give it a bash... Those extreme adventure racers, like Martin was, will do the lack of sleep and distance with their eyes closed.. Or should I say eyes open

I think a few of the old G4 challenge boys might pitch up.

I think this is a really dumb idea unless a major sponsor wants to toss away $1m for some coverage. It will take 100 teams to enter to cover the prize money. There will only be a handful of teams with a realistic chance. The vast majority of teams will be there simply to fund the purse the handful are racing to win. This looks like a glorified Epic with the minions funding the few. I wouldn't fork out over R100k to just be another rider without a clear chance of winning. Besides, as a Freedom Challenge veteran I am more than happy to ride a race that is more about my own personal achievement and experience. I lack the talent to challenge for a $1 million purse but that does nothing to diminish the rich experiences represented by the 3 Freedom Challenge blankets I have been handed over the years. Might just be blankets but they represent experiences that transcend money.

Question was asked last night and answer was that it will be CSA sanctioned but UCI won't be involved.

Can't have the one without the other. Read their rules.

This isn't about personal achievement.

It's about racing for a whack of wonga and some exceptional bragging rights.

It's going to drag professional hardmen that we've never heard of out of all sorts of cracks we've never heard of.

It's going to be the MMA of MTB. It's not going to be pretty. It's going to be awesome.

This is really my kinda thing, perfect time of the year for me as well.

If you would just learn to swim I would back you for the arch to arch triathlon.... :)

(for the uninitiated... bike from the Arc de Triomphe in Paris to the English channel, swim the channel, and run to London.. nonstop - think 8 people have done it so far...)

Just a rough comparison with the entry fees of other big stage races (per team and give and take a few dollars) - this might just be by far the most expensive stage race in the world?

Crocodile Trophy $4,500

BC Bike Race $ 2,000

La Ruta de los Conquistadores $4,000

Trans Alps $2,000

Cape Epic $5,000

So if your not in contention for the prize money does $10K represent good value for money for a dirtroadie ride over the Karoo?

Would be impressed if I'm proven wrong but I will stick my neck out and say this one is not getting off the ground.

(And if they do, it will prove that we really are a nation of dirtroadies at heart  )

Chuck Norris should enter....he is so tough, he could win it on a unicycle

He declined when he heard Gerrie Nel has entered for The Munga
