It’s back, and it’s going to be better than ever! The 13th edition of the Mabalingwe LionMan is on 19 July 2014. Only an hour and a half from Pretoria is the new featured event for 2014, LionMan. The race has a great history and has grown to one of the most prominent and popular mountain bike races in South Africa, after some negotiations the event is back in full swing! The "LionMan" MTB race has become a "must-do-event" for all seasoned cyclists but also for families and newcomers to the sport. This year the Lion Man will undergo some exciting changes on route, we have carefully read and listened to feedback from the previous year’s races and believe we have come up with the best route possible for everyone, show casing the best Mabalingwe has to offer in mountain biking! The event is the perfect weekend where families can all ride and there’s are distances for everyone! Take a look at the many activities and sites to see when you are down here.

did this event 4 years ago, enjoyed it thoroughly.

 

"the wall" really tested my sense of humor. It was for me unrideable in certain sections due to lack of skill at that stage.

 

The loose sand sections also tapped sufficient power from the legs to make the climb even more daunting.

What is your wishlist for Mabalingwe Lionman? What do you want to see route wise?

 

Route was perfect , maybe a bit more technical climbs and hairy downhills on the long route . Compulsory 30 minute stop with beers at the Oasis .

Planning to sit and do the draft route early next week.

Meeting to Mabalingwe management then too.

The flat start with lots of loose sand makes the start a bit dodgy. Get a few drags in before the really loose sand. The portage up that narrow little gorge at ?40ish was also crap.
