I checked with Harley, and their (poorly rated on the internet) tyres for my bike came in at just over 10.5K for a set of tyres, and excluding fitment and balancing ... fooking crazy chops they are.

They smoking some good stuff

I used to run BT56's on my TL1000R. Hard as hell and took ages to heat up. The slides were scary but gave me 8000km on a rear. Softer, more expensive tyres would last less than 2000km. TL was surprisingly light on front tyres, might be because they were more often than not pointed skywards........ Heavy on clutch plates though.
Tyres have dates like car tyres, note those.
Also remember the tyres look fine for long and then very quickly look terrible. It is like an exponential decay. Fine, fine, fine, fine, fooked...........
Thats my experience anyway.

Hairy, looking at your photos I sense there is an adventure bike rider lurking somewhere in your DNA. What on earth are you doing on that Harley? :D

Anyway, here is a answer to your scenario:

Those tyres were also in storage in this vid, and not exposed to UV, road grime, etc as per a set of tyres that would be on the road.

10 years though, I think that is a gold NO rule for me.

The lumps in the tyre are also enough for me to jump ship and get a new tyre ... so the tyre is on order and should be fitted in the next 2-3 days :)

I'm looking at between R3.6k - R4.3k for a set of tyres for the Tiger.

Dunlop Trailmax Missions for the former and Michelin Anakee Adventure, the latter.

For a set .... that is so cheap that if I owned a Tiger I would be learning how to do burnouts :P

fuk me, 10,5k for 2 tyres. Shows you when last I bought or had a motorbike. That said, I am in the market for tyres on my suv. Last year I replaced tyres on my double cab which came in at 9k. Proper offroad tyres. The tyres for the suv like cheap no name brands vitour, maxtrek, linlong, durun all come i from 1round 9k up to 12k and one can get certain brand name tyres from 9 to 10kk. Then the tyres of last year are now around 15k. Just crazy!!

Car tyres.

At least our little Polo thingie runs on Conti something or other and are rather dirt cheap for a full set :)

Tyre prices have risen like crazy in the last year or so. I use Michelin Anakee Wilds or Bridgestone AX41 on my Katoom 1190. The rears do not give much more than 3000 kms if I use the throttle enthusiastically! I have changed to Trailmax Missions now as the big Katoom is used mostly on tar and hard packed Karoo dirt roads. My 690 Enduro runs Pirelli MT21 but the rear also only gets 3000 or less. Fairly powerful for a little bike. I may try the Dunlop 606 simply because I have a new spare for my KLR which has not been ridden much since the 690 found its way into the garage.

Correct Anakees added!

Wow, that seems a good price. I do not recall the exact price but am almost sure the Missions were close to 5 for the set on my 1190.

I think it will be cost effective for me to ride to CT to get tyres fitted as opposed to ordering from George!
Good excuse for a bike ride anyways!

Drop a note if you are running down to CT.
