i was dry this morning up to about 1 km from my place of work. Started raining and Cape Townies forgot how to drive. Even my Jock strap is wet.

But it still beats sitting in a car.  :D  :D  :D

It's actually quite a smart design - Velocette realised that the way to go was overhead valves, but their motor was already quite a long stroke, so to go the traditional route with OHC directly onto the Valves would make it even taller.  And also quite complicated.  So they solved that by putting the cam high up in the crankcase, and used really short pushrods to operate the Overhead valves.  The short pushrods allow fairly high revs (for 1950) but the long stoke still gives you nice torque.  Unfortunately the problem with Velocette, and most of the other British Bikes of the time, is that the Engineers were miles ahead of the game, and the primitive manufacturing methods of the time just couldn't keep up - resulting in very high costs.

So trying to make my life a bit easier. Sitting on the floor while working a bike sucks!!

So I built a bike work stand out of some old work pallets. When I realized there was a lot of dead space underneath I made some drawers to store tools in. I realized early on that the pallets were too short so I mad an extension out front but will need to add one out back too as it is still a bit close for comfort.

I still need to add a stopper out front too.

The ramp pulled a bit from the welding. Instead of spot welding it all and then final welding, I started from one end and the heat just caused issues. It doesn't bother me though.

This was always a budget build so function is way more important than form........

Where is this^^^^^ pass? I went to school in Montagu, but never saw this!

It is the dirt pass between George and Herold. I believe it is the oldest pass in the country in normal daily use, completed in 1848.

To correct my spelling, it is Montagu, no e!

It is a really nice cycle or motor bike route iinto the Klein Karoo, linking to Perdepoort Pass just off the N9.
