2 coats of C Thru on the visor, rain wont stick to the visor. Just make sure, it can be used on the visor material as not all will be compatible.

Motul Helmet and Visor cleaner and Muc off Visor cleaner works well for cleaning

Ja, check visor compatibility; I know this, bought an Airoh tinted visor and gave it a wash with my long time visor and goggle cleaner, Johnsons Bay Shampoo. Buggered up the tint and I had a horrible ride.

The previous owner of the Fat Bob put the bike down at slow speed, hence the custom paint job. There are one or two small tell tail signs of scuffed indicators and something I spotted recently, the gear foot lever was slightly bent inwards. Visually this has really annoyed me, even though it is a slight bend, the bend is still there.

After I did the oil change a week or two ago, I took her for a spin to see if she would be spewing oil due to "first time working on a bike workmanship" and then stopped at The Viper Lounge and chatted to the owner. I pointed out the bend to the lever and he suggested bending the lever straight with a steel pipe. Using a steel pipe on the chrome finish, so fiddling in the garage last night I spotted a nice timber section and figured I could just use this as a lever set against the steel frame. Few seconds and slight tweeks, all was straight.

Took the eldest to school this morning and the shifting is worlds apart. It feels so much more direct now, and just where it needs to be on my foot .... so win win and can't wait to take her for a longer ride, hopefully going to a site in Kalkbay later today.

DR800?

Close - the 750 - 1989 model. Currently not running due to fueling issues. Otherwise it looks okay bar the terrible paint job minor rust and some dirt. I've already had the seat recovered  as shown in the pics. First task is to get it running and then see what else needs repair eg brakes and such like.

I have a question to you all on insurance:

I have my bike on comprehensive cover, costing me about R700 pm. It is not on HP.

I'm looking to cut those costs.

What criteria, other than if it is financed, do you guys use to decide whether to go with comprehensive or just basic cover?

Cheers.

Bikes parts are horrendously expensive. Depending on value of bike, I will always have comprehensive. Is your bike a dual purpose? If yes, there is a dude on Wild Dogs that does a seriously good comprehensive covers at a way lower premium than what you paying at the moment.

Yeah, loads of insurance write-offs here in NZ on bikes with pretty minor damage. As you say, the cost of parts relative to the vehicle is exorbitant. The insurers sell the bike (or what remains of it) on the $1 auctions.

Additional to comprehensive cover, another factor to consider is the value insured. Bikes like mine (European enduro bikes) drop MASSIVELY in market value in a very short space of time. So I have insured mine for replacement value.

I also add insurance of any custom parts (like my rally kit) and my gear (good helmets are pricey. So in total I pay equiv of about R600pm for my 450 and gear which is insured for about R230,000 (R180,000 bike, R30,000 custom parts, R20,000 gear).

Thanks for the info. I currently use a Wild Dog but need to reassess. Can you please give me your guy's username?

Such a pity that Alta went bust. I remember their Redbull Straight Rythm exploits and when Lyndon Poskit sadly got his one stolen on the way to compete in Erzberg.

Damn you Harley Davidson for playing part in tanking them!

Ps. I know the purists will say that motorcycles have no business being powered by anything but hydrocarbons, haha
