A hit and run of a cyclist occurred on Tuesday evening 10th June 2014 at 17h30 on the corner of Kromboom Road and the M3 the Cyclist was badly injured taken away by paramedics. A youngish guy driving a white Nissan Hard-body jumped the red traffic light knocked down the cyclist, he initial made like he was stopping, but then fled north down 8th avenue. A Good Samaritan in a grey T5 Caravelle stopped helped the injured cyclist also managed to take a photo of the Nissan. Does anyone know how cyclist is doing and If the perpetrator was caught yet?

Kromboom road and Milner should be made "more" cycle friendly as there are a lot cyclist using these roads. I had quite a few close calls in these roads. The narrow cycle lane in Kromboom is not enough, and there is no protection for cyclist in Milner road.

So sad. I really think cars are going to be one of things we happily accept now that will confound people in the future.

The sad part of it all is the perpetrator will face a few charges, and come off lightly.

Until such time that traffic transgressions are not treated as a serious crime, even with light injuries, people will continue to do as they please on the roads.

About a month before the Argus i was involved in a accident on milner road when this lady driving a IX35 coming from kenilworth side heading towards the common deicded to politly perform a U-turn to dodge the traffic and turned straight into 2 of us cycling on the opposite side of the road,

she was more worried about was how her fender and door was kinked, my front wheel and fork needed to be replace.

Hope you opened a case of reckless and negligence at the SAPS, don't let her get away with it.

NB !!!

If you are involved in an accident you ALWAYS report it to SAPS whether you have the other persons particulars or not.

It is VITAL that you do so.

You give as much detail as you can.

Someone might come up with info later.

You might want to claim from the accident fund etc.

Agreed. Something like a hit and run needs to carry a mandatory prison term until the case is heard when (if) you are caught.
