How about the Ardent Race at 720g. Tougher than the Ikons and better grip than the Crossmaks?

I've changed from Ikon's to the new 2014 Ardent Race tires & I love them!

"Ikon" on the left and "Ardent Race" on the right

I used to have Crossmarks on my bike, trying a set of Monorails at the moment. Have to say that I like the Monorails more than the Crossmark. Might have to try a set of the Ikons next time.

They look rather similar...

The Ardent Race have taller side knobs than the Ikon for better grip in the corners.

Thats the combo I used in 2013 Epic, Ardent back and Icon front! Bigger side knoblies made for better grip and the sidewalls a bit thicker to help prevent cuts from sharp stones! Not many people agreed with me back then. I had no problems, none whatsoever! Two Icons with "tette" in the dustbin since then.

Running Ardent up front and Crossmark on the rear - as Rouxtjie said, the Crossmarks are bomb proof but a bit on the heavy side (especially on WTB iFrequency hoops) but this combo is serving me well. Used to run Crossmarks up front, but I found that the front would washout pretty easily - so loving that grippy Ardent on the front :clap:

Ikon = 645g

Crossmark = 835g

So that means a total saving of 380g if you fit ikons over crossmarks....also its rotational mass....

Got the tyres this morning, and I am sorry there is a HUGE weight difference! Those Crossmarks feels like a tank!

I'm currently running racing Ralph EVO snakeskin on fr and rear and I think they are great but to be dead honest I have never riden anything else.

How would you guys compare these to the ikons?

I'm in the mood for change

Ralph is a great tyre...make no mistake, they are tough, grip well, easy to get a seal going BUT

They start sweating after 1000km...they also dont like tar, so if there is a bit of tar on your usual ride, they really get munched up quickly.

The Ikons just wear a bit better and dont sweat. That is why I like them

Nothing in it ito weight.

I have Ralphs Evo, and I hate them! Got 5 flats in 80km on tar... I think I will put on Ikons first and see how it goes, or maybe crossmarks rear and Ikon front.

Anyone know what happend to the Larsen TT?

Can't fault Ikon. Except the Ford version.

Will teach you to ride with foil for tyres.
