While I am not a fan, respect to him. Sure he cheated and got caught. It must have taken a lot of guts to make a come back knowing you are going to get a not so nice reception.

Those are the rules, you cheat and get caught, you pay the price. You sit out the penalty and then the rules allow you to come back.

There are plenty cyclists in the pro peleton in the same boat. According to the standards here Contador can race but he should not be allowed to be on the podium. Cycling would in my opinion be worse off.

While I don't always agree with the rules, I do abide by them as long as they are applied consistently.

Hey Guys

\How did you cope with the navigation thingy?

Hi Slobes

I loved the navigation! My screen was zoomed in quite far so that we could see immediately when we're off-course. My partner's was zoomed out for an overall view, and that worked great for us. The 2 or 3 times that we took a wrong turn, we knew within 50 metres. Loved that you could see when a u-turn was coming up on a downhill, so no need to be overly cautious.

Even the times that we were between other riders I still kept an eye on the screen - it's reassuring to know that you're on the right track, and if there were clearly marked (or less clear) detours due to unforeseen circumstances, I could still check the general direction.

Also loved that the unit could accurately tell me how far to go to the finish - especially towards the end of the difficult stages.

Loved the experience!

thanks cat-i.

had the garmin 705 for ages - just never used the navigation feature as I wanted to keep battery power. But with these power mokeys and all sorts of gadgets makes sense to get the full worth of your unit.

Would you do J2C again ? kinda weighing up doing j2c back to back with s2c.

Slobes, I've had the Fenix for 2 years and this was the first time I've had to use more than just the heart rate monitor and pretty pictures - loved being able to use it for what it was designed for. I didn't see any difference in battery usage - I guess it has to talk to the satellite anyway, whether it just records the route for me, or whether it tells me where to go.

JoBerg2C is absolutely worth doing! This was my second one. They keep making the route better, and the vibe is brilliant. They really treat their riders well. I don't think I'll do it again just because there's so many other places I haven't seen.

J2C back to back with S2C - not sure. Know about people doing just that - but you'll ride the S2C trails twice in a month - I guess the trails are that good, so if leave and budget is no option, then absolutely do it.

Was there any teams / solo riders riding without GPS navigation, and if so how did they cope?

I don't know of anyone but you will easily get lost without one especially on the final day through the sugar cane plantations as there are zero markings. Some guys forgot to charge their units some nights and had to stick to a bunch to know where to go which influences your day as well

Just my 2c here:

Went as support and looking after bikes

The bike bays where great at 2 location(sterkfontein and clifton) the worst was at famer glens farm. 5 washing bays only to be maned by the workers was a big f up.

Mechanics should get there own washing area.

Laying water pipes closer to camper vans would be great.

For the rest was great.

Oh and the biogen drivers drive like horse $#%¥ as the same for the avis vans on the public roads between camps.

No respect here I am afraid(not any of his result, pre or post being caught)...sure he served his ban, but I wish all races would go the route of the Cape Epic where you are not allowed to enter if you are caught doping....klaar, no ifs or buts.

I do hear you wrt the rules and they are just playing the cards that are dealt, however I feel its a joke of a consequence considering the damage they do. Cycling would be much better off, who respects the ex dopers results anyway...there will be new heros and icons if they apply the lifetime ban rule....remember they made the results of these races cheap, if I was a race organizer I would jaag them weg when they sitting on the start line.

Does anyone have an idea when the next registrations open? I'm really eager to do next year's J2c..

No need to stress. The entries does not fill up quickly at all. I think it will open July/August'ish

Im with you on this one, was very surprised to see him at the race. I must say it was very funny as non of the other pro's mixed with them at dinner, he pretty much looked like a outcast.
