I ride in the bad lands.In races I'm too proud and skaam to "borrow "off other riders when there is a problem. PS my partner is a losskop and never brings anything to stage races and I'm stuffed if I am going to wait for him to borrow what he needs!!
Lone_Ranger Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 I switched to a Camelback earlier this year, and on my first race with it lost a bottle of energy drink on a rocky descent. Wasn't I glad I had the camelback. I've also had two saddle bag break due to rough riding, so that's not an option for me. So far, after 4 months, the camelback is good. I get a bit hot in warm weather, bit I'm getting used to it now.
DJR Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 I use Camekbak and bottles depending on the length of the ride and the proximity of rescue. BUT I bought my sons one of these each when they first started road riding and I didn't want them to dig food out of their back pockets while riding, especially in crowded races like the Argus. It made so much sense, and now I have 2 of these bags lying around, I'm going to give it a try myself and see how much my mates laugh.

FlandersZA Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 I love mine but then I'm the guy with the mobile workshop on his back and for me it's probably better training so I'll take it. Mine is one of the High Sierra packs and I really like it. My only gripe is that the mouthpiece tends to not seal properly after some use and needs to be squeezed after a sip to stop from leaking. Same thing has happened to my wave 70 mouthpiece I use for sea kayaking. I'm thinking of doing some surgery and attaching some camelback paraphernalia to the end of the hose.
Joeboy69 Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 I ride with 2 CO fixed under my bottle holder and a lot if trust in my Stan's. If something goes wrong I call the wide to fetch or walk. Else I have a tube and plastic levers in the back of my shirt.

Kneepads, elbow pads, gloves, tools, spares, bike lock, jacket, goggles, etc etc. I'm generally the oke that gets ripped off at the parking lot for having a bag that weighs more than my bike, until someone in the group needs that item that only I am carrying. Plus it's extra training for me. And I need as much as I can get.It wasn't the parking lot. It was the parking lot, the top of the first climb, the top of the second climb and every other opportunity that presented itself.I'm good like that...

Ive even cable tied all my cables together to stop them slapping each other on bumpy sections. Most irritating sound ever, carbon roadbike with carbon wheels and carbon bottle cage with a cheap plastic bottle on a bumpy uneven road. I feel like given the owner some duct tape to quiet his bike down ????

VicanZA Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 The camelpak doesn't give u any indication of how much water is left, prefer 2xbottles, 1 tube tapped to bike, wallet with tools in other leaves me 2 pockets for cell phone etc. don't need to carry food as most water tables have snacks these dys.
