How many kg have you dropped since cycling?

Was just thinking about my 'job done' comment and in fact I guess the problem is that perhaps, at least to my mind, the easier part which is losing the weight is done

Now the hard part which is maintaining it begins ...... pretty much as I have also stated before you can never go back to a 'normal' eating pattern as that is what got you there in the first place and in fact it is best just to stick with what got you to here FOREVER. Anything else just becomes a slippery slope, at least in my case it does  :cursing:

I have actually been enjoying the diet my wife has me on. This banting thing is pretty easy. So ye - the continuation of the diet is what did concern me when I started, but not phased anymore. Lots of meat is always good :)

Sigh. I got to 86.4 and this am back to 87.2. Struggling to break below 85.

You just lost a lot of weight quickly, chances are you'll float around this mark now varying ~2kg or so for a while. Its like your body changes gears with respect to metabolism and weight loss. In short, don't always expect weight loss to be linear.

Still hovering around 86.4kg. Sigh.

What I have noticed over the last week though...

1. My belt I wear to the office has run out of holes. Need to get more punched and go get some new Chinos this weekend.

2. The MTB baggies that I purchased 2 months back are now very loose and becoming uncomfortable. Going to need to get another pair soon.

I am riding a fair amount. About 70km per week. My legs are definitely starting to show some decent muscle build. Could this be countering the weight loss effectively keeping me hovering at this weight?

The pains of getting in shape :)

what is your secret?

Doesn't seem hard to do. I started 5 April and down 8. Stuck here for just over a week though, yet I am getting thinner. Aiming at at least another 5 over the next month.

Breads and pastries, damn Gummi those are my nemesis :( - I avoid them like the plague now and like you have upped protein.

Went to work in my son's pant and my wife's belt yesterday :)

Remember that weight loss and getting thinner are not really the same thing. Up to a certain point they go hand in hand, but form then on you must decide what you want to do.

There is a difference between someone weighing 80kg with 6% body fat, and someone weighing 80kg with 35% bodyfat.

Go have yourself tested for body fat %, bone mass/density etc. Ideally, you would have had this done at the start of your program, so you could compare periodically.

True story - but I am only realising that now. I have definately gotten thinner over the last almost 2 weeks, but no weight loss.

I never thought to go get my body fat etc... checked out. Wish I had.

I had my stats done a while after starting ... went to a dietician on the Discovery network.

was (Oct 2014): 93kg , with 24.9% body fat, 11% Visceral fat, 65.3kg muscle mass

now (May 2015): 81.8kg, with 17.1% body fat, 7% Visceral fat, 67.6kg muscle mass

rest is made up from bone mass, body water etc.

The dietician has a scale which measures these parameters, looks like a normal bathroom scale but sends electronic pulses up through feet to measure. Can't feel it, and takes no longer than it would take you in the morning on your bathroom scale.

I am just cycling ... on a steady diet, no banting. Mostly it was about cutting out bread, and eating less food containing wheat and yeast.  :)  And then looking at portion size.

Picking up muscle mass stunts the drop in weight a bit, but can see the belt loosening  :)

But also struggling now to drop more as I am getting closer to my ideal weight which is about 78kg. Have to up my cycling now .... doing about 5 hours a week at the moment.

Awesome stories guys!

I have also noticed that my clothes are sitting much looser on my recently (however, I am the same weight). I have noticed that my leg muscles suddenly has exploded (like when I was intensively gymming). So I do think that my body is using fat for fuel (am on banting right now), but that I am also developing muscle due to cycling.

Will up my cycling in the next week to between 10-15hrs per week, as I do figure that I will start with weight loss again (that the fat loss with outstrip the muscle that I have gained.

Keep up the good work

I know I've posted my weight (year-on-year outlook) somewhere, but can't find that particular post.

My weight has been like a roller coaster over the years.

85/86 to 93, then down to 75 and back up to mid-80's peaking at 88 before I got back to my current 76.

What is disappointing though is the % body fat - in 2008/9 when I was in my best (racing) form ever, I had about 12% body fat. Now I'm the same weight but with about 17% body fat. The only difference between now and then... I'm not really concerned obsessed about it.
