Hey, I joined in for the first time yesterday evening.  Went pretty much all out from the start..

When I first bought my powerbeam I saw there were a significant difference between the powerbeam and my power2max powermeter readings (Powerbeam reading 50W more than Power2max).   I have tested the powerbeam with a stages pm as well and got the same result.

I do my training in % of FTP, so it doesn’t really have an effect on that (FTP on Powerbeam 315W, FTP on power2max 275W).

I am pretty sure my REAL FTP is not 315W that would make me a domestic pro..

So, I was wondering can this give you an unfair advantage in virtual training??

My call… No, it can’t. I think the only way guys can cheat is to change their weight.

Anyway, what are your thoughts?

Hey Welcome,

My thoughts are any increase in watts will give you a better performance in the racing. However how do you know that 315 is not your correct watts. try calibrate before the race and see if its any different. If no then i imagine that your watts are correct.

I agree with you though about cheating. The only way to actively cheat is mis-represent your weight. But why would anyone do that for a fun ride.

Congrats on your win last night. Your ave watts are my goal for the year. Hopefully i can get there.

I have found the same thing - in an online race I can average just over 140 watts for 40 odd minutes but when I did an FTP test last week using TrainerRoad i was averaging around 130 - 135 watts for a shorter duration than when we are racing?

My weight is set the same on both programmes

Welcome. It will be interesting to see the you guys race up front. There are many ways to cheat. My favourite I learned from Dips - put the fan from behind. Vomit without stopping and so on....

Welcome! Don't feel bad about possibly cheating just because you creamed us by about 6min! Your avg Watts are impressive and a goal of mine as well. See you next week

Yes "power" can be manipulated if you want,,,,serves no purpose other than stroking your already fragile ego,

But before you go thinking you are a machine (it has happened to me once)

Check for consistent tyre pressure as mentioned before, and calibrate, even still I have followed what I just said once and my power was on another level out of the blue when I stopped the race I reset and for some or other reason I was knocked down to the ground again,

Big guy the power beam pro is a very LEKKE simple easy to use machine and I think most use it

On the cheating side just remember one day YOU GOING TO BUMP INTO YOUR VIRTUAL FRIENDS OUT THERE IN THE BIG BAD WORLD
