When calibrating the trainer with CVT (I'm using the desktop beta currently), is there anything specific one should or should not do?

I check my tyre pressure each time, to try and keep it roughly the same, and do the calibration each time before I start the race.

Should I stay in the same gear as the calibration was done?

I've got one part left of the Vuelta challenge, but I just want to be sure I am doing things correctly - I feel I should be slower up these climbs, and I don't want to be higher up on any ranking than I should be.

I am on a completely different setup - so no advice but I know a lot was covered earlier in the thread. If it is a Cycleops setup you will find the distributers VERY helpful.

Wish my budget stretched that far at the time :(

Got a Tacx Vortex Smart for a good price - when I can afford a better one, I can always give this one to the wife, she won't mind at all that it can only do up to 7% gradient :)

I already keep my tyre pressure at about 8bar, will check if a longer warmup changes anything. Also going to check against the calibration in the Tacx tablet software, while I'm at it.

Some day I will try joining one of the hub races.

What trainer do you have?

Can you safe your activities on the Beta version?  I've done the FTP test and after 40 minutes of cycling, it wasn't saved.  Asked support and they said you cannot currently do in on the Beta version.

I am not sure if I am missing something, but currently feeling like I will get more joy from Zwift or one of the others?

I have not tried the FTP test yet, only a New Helshoogte route, and the lot so far from the Vuelta challenge. Those did appear to save and upload correctly though.

I'm using a Vortex Smart, with the firmware update to enable FE-C support.

The application did update last night, enabling the Online Race option, fixing a problem with blank route videos, and a bunch of other things, maybe it solves the problem you had?

I'm also using PC desktop but the old version not beta version, however i don't think the calibration process will differ.

All you have to do is maintain the required speed as prompted on the screen, its usually anywhere between 29 - 35 km/h which has to be maintained for 2 minutes, and then at the end of 2 minutes you stop pedalling (you will get a screen message to stop pedalling) and let the wheel freewheel until the screen prompt tells you the calibration is finished, just before the wheel stops.

I don't think it matters what gear you do it in, or even if you change gears during.

I always use the same tyre pressure, and adjust the roller tension as per powerbeam instructions (2 clicks...Vee vant to hear 2 click JA!! )

One thing i have noticed in the past, is the joule computer if its on at the same time it seems to interfere with the calibration process sometimes......this is just a suspicion and not gospel.... I prefer to use the joule display while racing instead of the display on the laptop screen. Normally i warm up with the joule and then switch it off before i open the VT desktop app and plugin the laptop dongle, and then recalibrate as per instructions on my lap top and discussed above. Then after the race has started i turn the joule back on again but don't calibrate it as the desktop is now controlling the resistance...

Whew that's a mouthful hey...sorri hope it helps

They recently posted a YouTube video on tyre pressure. It was a road bike but they recommend 8-10 psi (I work in bar so hope I remember well). They argue that you should check it weekly else you could have a 1% difference. Not much on a week basis but adds up if you let it deflate for a few weeks.

I suspect it might be 80 - 100 psi

Glad u enjoyed it, that lap is my favourite local road ride lap and was used for the Swiss national road champs about 10 years ago...the elites did it 11 or 12 times

Some interesting feedback regarding the Berg&Bush Great trek race and virtual training:

I noticed my last two online races that my average power was dropping significantly. I think this was due to less IDT interval training and more "on the road" distance training.

Although Berg & Bush was a last minute entry without any specific training, I really struggled with short, fast bursts of power.

I was able to hold an average HR of 89% for the 4h20 and 97km on the first day (trying to keep up with a stronger partner), but no fireworks in the legs...

The point I'm trying to make is: what combination of IDT (interval) type training versus steady state training do you guys do?
