I need to get one of these trainers to come join the rides, its just figuring out how to slip it past the wife that is the problem.

Reasons for a good quality IDT this Xmas:

1. Its safer than "out there" amongst the BMW's and bike jackers

2. The other half can also use it

3. You will never be far away

4. You will spend less time training, compared to normal outdoor rides

5. If she really loves you, she will buy you one for xmas / birthday (whichever is sooner)

Who is in for a short (30-40min) race next week Tuesday?

I am alone at home whilst the family is at the beach. It will actually be something to look forward to. Pathetic.

I bought a kickr and it's a great training tool which I do not by any means regret buying.  I do feel a little hard done by from the app side though...  When first reading the reviews, Initial research told me that this thing can interface with anything with ANT+, bluetooth and whatever else.

Problem is that my (old) laptop for some reason doesn't connect.  The laptop was formatted and I don't know if all of the drivers were re-loaded, so its a mission to find out why it doesn't work.  So after paying a month's worth of subscription for Virtual trainer without being able to do a single ride, I went back to the phone apps.  None of these apps are properly designed for android?  Kinomap works, but it doesn't have a "chromecast" button, so I can't get it to display on the TV.  Trainer roads is only Apple, Bkool is a shyte app to say the least and virtual trainer also doesn't have much functionality when using the android app

Is it really true that there are NO good android apps for virtual cycling and NO chance to race against buddies without the PC version of Virtual Trainer?

If you have paid for a CVT subscription I suggest you contact the Cycleops VT support directly, this email is a European support desk so they are more or less on the same time zone as SA (they are 1 hour behind SA time at the moment)

support@virtualtraining.eu.

A quick look on their support page might provide some answers

Good luck

The Android version has been updated to allow online racing now...have used it on my Samsung Tab...like Swiss says maybe mail the support and ask them to transfer the subs licence to your mobile device - can take 24-48hrs to activate tho.

for the "chrome cast" option assuming that you have one that is compatible with the android device used (not all are) then just turn on the screen mirroring before opening the app...

Are you using the laptop with an ANT+ USB stick?

Somewhere in the subfolders of the new Desktop version are drivers, I'm pretty sure, I had to install them on the laptop I'm using.

Thanks, will try this.  I have a samsung s4 mini.  it has the "screen mirroring" option, but it has poor resolution (phone screen resolution), is very slow and crashes very often, so this is not really a workable option.  I'll try the updated version of their mobile app.

nope, I don't have the ANT+ USB stick.  I assumed that I can connect my laptop with the kickr straight through bluetooth in the same manner as my phone does?  Maybe wrong for thinking it, but I assumed the USB stick only to be necessary if your laptop doesn't have bluetooth?

Hmm, well if it worked previously via bluetooth on the laptop then it should still - any other bluetooth devices that you can use to test with the laptop?

Remember that "older" Bluetooth (found on older PC's) is not the same as Bluetooth Smart or Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) and although your PC may have Bluetooth it may not have BLE and thus will not connect to the trainer - then you need a BLE USB or ANT+ USB https://www dot bicyclepower dot co.za/product/ant-mini-usb-stick/  to connect the pc...
